The best music to get piss assed drunk by, is Russian
Edited on Tue Apr-28-09 09:30 PM by Xipe Totec
there is just nothing better than listening to Vladimir Vysotsky, when you're three sheets to the wind.

especially this piece, the chase, about a drunken race through the forest, where the racer gets lost and escapes a pack of wolves,...

but barely...

1. Stupid me, forgot to mention I want you to counter...
What is YOUR best music to get piss assed drunk by?

What song sayd, it's time to let go of the reins and let the wolves have a taste of you?...

2. Not Vysotsky.
I had that crap shoved down my throat as a child. Yet another overrated musucian considered a bard and demigod because he died earlier than his time. Same goes with Kino because of Viktor Tsoi's early demise.

I'd rather get drunk to anything by Pink Floyd, although the most effective music to get drunk by is probably Hawkwind's. I prefer Floyd drunk because I also prefer Floyd sober.

4. I rather listen to an expert on the subject
and, as far as getting pissed assed drunk, Vysotsky has no rival.

Sorry you had it crammed down your throat, I didn't.

PS: Nothing against Pink Floyd, but I enjoy them much more when I'm sober.

:hi:

12. He has plenty of rivals, to include
anyone living in the former Soviet Union who was old enough or clever enough to know how to get vodka during Vysotski's career. His music appeals to Russians the same reason why country music appeals to depressed, whiny southerners who lose their girlfriends, whose grandmothers dies and whose trucks won't start. Vysotski was somewhat responsible for adding the drunken appeal to the Russian shanson genre (before "blatnaya" crime songs largely took it over), but he was hardly alone.

And no offense taken regarding Floyd. They're not my favorite (esrly Rush is, Foghat right up there too), they're just my favorite choice when under the influence.

14. You seem to have a superficial understanding of Vysotsky
and his music.

Tell me, how does Охота на волков relate to whiny southerners who lose their girlfriends?

Because, I don't see the connection.

23. You seem to have an overestimation of his deepness.
Single out any song you like, but Vysotski's not that deep, no matter how much his fans want to believe he is.

I'm saying that he, much like a lot of our country artists, wrote a bunch of stuff that lends itself to whiny depression but really isn't all that clever and never was. I would have thought the analogy was obvious, but I guess my "superficial understanding" got in the way of your superior understanding. :eyes:

11. Especially the really upbeat numbers, but the ballads can
be good, too. I love her version of "Stompin' At the Savoy." :)

22. Wizard of Oz, that goes without saying.
Stompin' At the Savoy is a classic song. There are a lot different instrumental jazz versions of it.

15. Very interesting, thanks!
Does this secular Jewish music have a connection to the Ladino, or Sephardic music?

21. I don't know. My dad and his family are all Ashkenazi.
He likes to play a couple tapes now and then of klezmer, but I don't know too much about it's relationship to other Jewish cultures. I think it is related to Russian and Polish wedding music and folk songs.

I think it explains my grandfather's love of swing music, especially Benny Goodman. :)

26. I nominate a good Welsh male choir
like The Morriston Orpheus Choir belting out Welsh hymns and fight songs like Men of Harlech.

"I'll drink to that!"
