I don't roll that way. I like to see it all - even the posts of people who've personally attacked me. I can't imagine filtering out something just because I didn't like it. I don't have to come on this website. I choose to, so I choose to see it all.

I wish people would remember that humor is subjective...What is unfunny and unoriginal to you is hilarious to someone else.
This is my biggest lounge peeve. You don't find something funny? Fine-hide the threads. But some of us do. Nobody should be going around telling people what they should or should not find funny..Thats too much like fundies going around telling people what they should and shouldn't beleive.
*Note--I am not saying you do this, because you don't, but too many people go around thinking its their duty to "police" the lounge by telling people what they should and should not post and it PISSES ME OFF.

On a few rare occasions I put someone on Ignore that went on a binge and posted 50 threads in one day. Cleared up a whole page of junk. But took them back off in a day or two.

Basically, I don't mind a difference of opinion. I'm fine with that. But there are some here who can't keep within the bounds of reasonable discussion and disagreement and invariably resort to name calling and personal attack. When that persists I put them on ignore. So long as I don't see it, I don't care what they say about me. On the other hand, if I do see it, it triggers me (both my insecurities and my rage). Again, if it were merely a difference of opinion, that wouldn't be a problem. It is when it gets personal -- and sometimes it is done very "sneakily" -- it can get under my skin. I don't wish to be provoked so ignore is a good option for me.

Most of the people on the list are there because they overreacted and got all hypersensitive because someone had the gall to disagree with them. Not all of these disagreements have involved me, either, I just put people on ignore when I see that sort of thing. As such, I'm guessing 10-12 or more of those on my list are people I've never even had an exchange with.

I also put people on ignore when they try to tell the rest of us how we should all think and post. If I spent any serious time in GD - P or GD, I'd have over 100 people on ignore, since there are dozens of people who think it's their business to instruct others on what to say, what to think and so on.

I just went through my list and counted 14 people whose screen names I don't remember at all. Those screen names I put on ignore after interacting with them myself...well, I'm pretty sure I remember them all.

Life's too fucking short to deal wirh people you think are jokes. This site has over a hundred thousand members, so why would I want to waste time sifting through the posts of people for whom I have no regard at all?

80. I only have 2 or 3 respected DUers. And it isn't personal, nor do I disagree with them either.

They are nice, and respected on DU (one of them is extremely well respected). These DUers just get on my nerves, and, I don't feel that whatever they write will constructively benefit my understanding of anything. I have their threads and posts on ignore so that I won't lash out at them and say anything rude.

I, on the other hand, am on at least one DUer's list. He told me so!!1!

If there is an argument, it's important to read what that person has to say, whether you agree or not.

But, if you can't handle someone telling you that it's okay to breast feed in the Olive Garden while smoking, without rudely posting that pit bulls need to be circumcised, then maybe you should consider the "ignore" feature. ;)

Currently none... but quite a few in the past, and I see no reason to believe that the future will be any different.

Don't get me wrong-- I certainly do not hold true to any dogma which insists that the use of the ignore function is cowardly in anyway. Indeed, more often than not I think that the posters who righteously proclaim "the ignore button is the coward's way out..." (or its variants), are simply advertising a cheap form of self-congratulatory validation.

For my part, I see it as a useful tool to assist in separating the metaphorical chaff from the wheat. Regardless of how intelligent a person may or may not be, if the wisdom to use that intelligence is either lacking or simply not utilized, the kernel of any intelligent truth may be hidden under too many layers of useless and dogmatic biases and self-indulging hubris.

Take for example the college Physics Professor-- a man of letters who is tenured, published, and recognized as a leading authority in his field. Imagine him sitting down for a nice lunch in the college cafeteria. Soon thereafter, a freshman takes a seat opposite the Prof., a student who has recently read his first (and only) book on Physics. The student, while well-versed compared to most 5th graders is little more than pedestrian to the Prof. Let us imagine further that the student read a passage in the book which counters a statement the Professor has made.

The student begins to argue with the professor-- not an argument to learn, nor an argument to allow himself other perspectives he may not have had before, but an argument for its own sake. An argument to provide evidence simply to himself that he's not as ignorant as reality might otherwise dictate. Regardless of what the Professor may say, the student will have none of it, feeling that only he himself may be trusted. I would imagine that before lunch is over, the Professor may very well wish he had an Ignore feature to use on this particular student-- not because he's a "coward", but because the student, interested more in lecturing others than in learning himself, is a waste of the Professor's time and thought.

And I while certainly don't hold myself in any great esteem, or consider myself one of DU's handful of resident Professors (quite the opposite in fact), we have more than our fair share of indulgent students who tend to drown out (through use of snark, bumper-sticker slogans, and one-liners) those posts which may actually allow us thought provoking perspectives and ideas.

Well, darn-- my lunch break is over and I was unable to get the Professor's attention... :P
