The family and I went to church today. My life partner, who is even more resistant to religion than I, decided he wanted to check out the local UCC church because we heard the pastor speak at the Eve of Justice event. (The Eve of Justice was an event the night before the California Supreme Court convened to here the arguments for and against Proposition 8).
We actually really enjoyed the service and are thinking about going back.
4. Me, being a practically excommunicated Catholic
I found the order of the litergy to be quite comfortable. Just enough music and just enough ritual without having the service take up an hour and a half.
j/k. I have friends who never thought that they'd darken the doorstep of a house of worship again who ended up joining U/U, UCC, or other less dogmatic faiths. :hi:
I've gotten support and found friends at church that are solid and true after years. The church I attend practices what is preached - give back to the community and make a difference. We had a peace vigil the night before we went to war. Amazing people.
