Anyone up for creating DUville in meatspace?
like a bunch of libertarians tried to do in Mentone, Texas?

There are other small counties out there that are a wee bit closer to civilization. One is Taliaferro (pronounced "Tolliver") Co., GA, pop. 2,077, and right along I-20 between Atlanta and Augusta. Of course, we'd need several hundred DUers there, not several dozen as with Texas. First order of business: Rename the only local landmark, a park named for Confederate "hero" Alexander Stephens.

1. Turns out the second-smallest county is right under my nose

Kalawao Co., HI with 147 and dropping.

The catch: It's dropping because all its residents are the surviving people from the Kalaupapa Hansen's disease settlement (think Father Damien, soon to be St. Damien). All the land is owned by the Park Service, so we're screwn.

San Juan Co., CO, at 558, might be worth a look.

edit: caps

3. I hate to tell you this, but...
San Francisco is only 968 miles from the Springs.

Other cool progressive places like Boulder are a lot closer.

6. OK... But can we put a big fence with razor wire around Colorado Springs...
so we make sure we keep the riff-raff in over there?

4. Tell you what else: The puppy is already Blue.
President Obama 264, Irrelevant McLoser 214.

There's even a train (mostly for tourists) that connects it to civilization in the summer. All we have to do is make it year-round, and we're golden (or at least silver, since Silverton is the county seat)!
