Pizza, Shakespeare's of course Beer, Flat Branch Thai food, Bangkok Gardens Funky old school(1800's)Pool Hall, with great little burgers, Booches Great coffee, Coffee Zone That's all been nationally recognized and written about, and it's all within a couple of blocks downtown.
Culturally and entertainment wise, you're coming in during a lull period of the year, MU is on spring break so the cultural events, clubs, etc. are running at a low level. Shame you didn't come last month, you missed the True/False Film Festival. Check and see what's going on at the Blue Note, Mojo's to start with, Murry's if you like jazz, sorry, the classical scene follows the schedule of the University:shrug:
If you wish to excortiate the rich, well we've got some of the Walton spawn living in Columbia, his two nieces, Ann Walton Kroenke and Nancy Walton Laurie. One lives out by the country club, the other at the intersection of Nifong Rd. and Rock Quarry Rd. Big, tacky spreads.
If you like to try out local wines, Le Bourgeois Vineyards out at Rocheport is a nice place, nice dining too.
If you want to get back to nature, there's a great set of trails and nature areas in and around the area, the Katy Trail, part of Mark Twain Forest, etc.
There's other charms and interesting things that I'll let you discover on your own. Downtown is an interesting exploration, but stay away from mall hell out on Stadium Blvd. Oh, and if the Tigers win Sunday over Marquette, well, you can party with a bunch of happy, friendly Tiger fans. Black and gold are the colors, if you wear anything that says Kansas on it, I can't vouch for your safety:evilgrin:
It's a nice little college town, filled with liberal, intelligent people set in a real pretty part of the country. Pack a jacket, highs in the fifties and sixties, lows in the forties, chance of rain Monday and Tuesday, if you're lucky you might just get to see a tornado (if you hear a big wailing, warbling siren outside, and the sky is looking ominous, seek shelter immediately).
Enjoy!
