Seriously, there have been people I've only known for a few weeks that I've had an odd desire to spill my guts to. And have spilled my guts to. And there are people I've known for ages that I would never tell anything deep or personal to.

1. I wish I knew. I work in a call center, and I must *be* that kind of person,
because complete strangers tell me personal things that make me a little confused at how I "opened the door" for them. They used to seek me out when I worked retail, too.

The funny thing is, I'm not really what I'd call a "people person". I'm pretty introverted and can be socially shy and awkward. Although that could be it--I'm too shy to talk a lot so I come off as a "good listener." And when I do say something, I try to sound really supportive and non-judgemental (unless someone's just totally out there) to avoid conflict (a nice tactic to take with strangers who are also your customers.)

2. It sucks on the other side too
Sometimes it seems like I can just say hi to someone on a bus (figurative) and by the time it's my stop I've heard such horrible stories.

I've figgered it was the Irish thing.. instead of an X on my head for fightin' it's an unload to me mark.

:P

3. I don't know.

I have that effect on some people. And I have some close friends that I haven't known all that long, so obviously they have that effect on me too. :)

4. My dear lightningandsnow...
I think people like that have the ability to make you feel as though, at that moment, you are the most interesting and important person ever.

I know folks like this, and it's always the same...

They focus on you.

And when they're really good, they are normally honest, and trustworthy. They make excellent friends...

Hang onto them!

5. There's a lady in my church I felt close to right away, and I figured out
why fairly quickly. She reminds me of my grandma. She and my grandma grew up in the same county, so she has the same inflection to her voice that my grandma had. I know that's why I immediately felt close to her.
