57. In San Antonio's defense...
It gets under your skin.
I've not lived there for almost three years now and it still pains me a bit. I love my hometown.
Sure there are cities where there is more to do and see. There are cities that have better food and night life. There are cities that don't melt your face in the hellish heat of February....

And yet, San Antonio will proudly always be my home.

6. What is it, only 17%
of Americans have passports? It's some pathetic number like that. I'm guessing that only a little more than that percentage here can actually give you an educated reply because they haven't been to that many of the world's great cities. I've only been to Europe, the British isles, and Canada, and I've traveled quite a bit in the US, but I can't give an opinion on any Asian or South Pacific cities. (Paris was my choice, btw. I didn't expect to like it when I first visited, but I fell completely in love with the place. Can't go back often enough)!

51. Exactly!
Even better -- "Auntie Em" (my brother in law's aunt) is one of the silver haired ushers. Her post is the section above home plate. After the third inning, I go visit Auntie Em -- and if there's an empty seat in her section, it's mine.

What a great way to spend an afternoon! Or evening! Even sweeter when the Cubbies win.

10. I'm not sure. Help me out.
I've avoided cities like the plague for most of my life, and haven't traveled much.

For me, any great city on earth would:

*be clean and pollution free
*be safe
*all people would have adequate housing, food, and shelter
*have a strong, well-supported education system
*be democratic
*be civil, and protect civil rights
*have abundant public transportation, and that transportation system would handle the daily traffic without jams and long waits

Is there a city like this?

Also love Rome & Paris, and Prague is next (to visit) on my list, but I have fallen in love with it from afar. I would also add Florence, Vienna, Amsterdam, Brugge(Belgium)& London.

50. United Arab Emirates-- Plus more fun Dubai stuff
The final heigth is still a closely guarded secret. However, it is clear that it will be taller than the current record of the time... Trust me, it will happen. This should be appx. 2006.

At the feet of the tower will be the world's largest shopping mall. They are also currently building a new "Mall of the Emirates" which will have the world's largest artificial snow dome, complete with ski-run.

Also on track, is a complex of the world's largest man-made islands

My pictures of the current development from the top of the Burj al Arab, the world's only 7 star hotel-- which is around the same heigth as the Empire State building.

Also on tap is Dubailand, one of the largest theme parks/entertainment complexes on the planet.

Dubai has launched one of the biggest construction projects in the world, the $5 billion Dubailand mixed-use theme park, a Middle East answer to Disneyland.

To be built on two billion square feet of land behind the Emirates Road stretching from the back of Emirates Hills down almost to The Creek, the theme park consists of 45 separate projects from a space exploration exhibition to full-size dinosaur enclosure.

Phase One with the core facilities will be completed within two years, while the progress of the rest of the project depends on the willingness of the private sector to participate in this immense project.

Announcing the project to the Dubai community Crown Prince General Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum sharply called on local businessmen not to keep their money in a bank account but to invest in Dubai.

Dubailand includes the biggest shopping mall in the world, The Mall of Arabia, several new five-star hotels including one built in sand dunes, an indoor ski-slope, a complex of sports stadiums, and an ecological dome to grow vegetation in the heart of the desert.

There will also be an equestrian centre, aviation display, modern art gallery, water amusement park, multi-cultural garden complex, the largest zoo in the Middle East, Pyramids and much more.

However, the most striking thing about Dubailand will be its immense scale. This is a huge area of land and the project will be almost as large as the present built-up area of Dubai.

Dubailand is designed to entertain and amuse the 15 million tourists a year Dubai intends to attract and will vastly add to the hospitality infrastructure of the emirate. This is to be nothing less than the leisure and entertainment hub of the Middle East, and a world-class tourism attraction similar to Disneyland in Florida... http://usa2uae.com/archives/00000022.htm

coastal Greece near Cyclades, Maui Island Hawaii, Wellington..New Zealand, or someplace around Newcastle or Brisbane Australia.

The cool thing would be if a millionaire, you could stay in one place like Australia in December and in Greece during July.

But I doubt many millionaires could afford this, and if I were a billionaire I would use this money for a charitable purpose.

Really: extremely vibrant city with all the features of an European capital. Museums, theatres and orchestras - all in world-class quality and quantity.
And unlike the other European capitals (let alone New York) the place isn't too crowded - neither traffic nor housing is a problem. Not to mention: the prices are reasonable.

61. I live in NYC and I'm having a hard time bringing myself to vote for it.
And I basically love NY, but it's such a cliche to call it the greatest city in the world. It definitely was at one time--probably the last time in the 1970s. It's become suburbanized, Disney-fied, Middle-Americanized since the Giuliani administration.

I can't vote for London either, even though I think it is a great city. It too has become blander since I first visited it.

Paris is still nice and spicy. But my favorite city lately is Seville. Or Granada. Or Cadiz. I went to Andalusia last year and fell deeply in love.

68. well it isn't the greatest...But...I fell in love in L'viv...
...and it does have pretty old old-world feel to it...

and "I fell in love in L'viv...", it sounds like a line from a Cole Porter song...

71. kinda depends on what you want to do
if you like shopping, or theatre, or meeting friendly people, or getting gerat food (I'd have to nominate Melbourne for that one) or live music, or comedy, or scenic beauty etc etc

81. My Top Ten
In no particular order:

NYC
San Diego
Boston
San Francisco
DC
Prague
Rome
London
Amsterdaam
Berlin

I love Salzburg, but it really isn't a city, it's more of a town. If we were to say that it was a city, I would replace Berlin with Salzburg
