Cleanest/Dirtiest retail bathrooms
Cleanest: Starbuck's and Trader Joe's

Dirtiest: I would say Wal-Mart, but I haven't been in one in over a decade, so J.C. Penney's and Lowe's.

1. No Chevron/Texaco love here?
If I can even find a working gas station bathroom, it will be filthy

2. I only use the ones that are attached to a Subway or something
They tend to be cleaner. And, the J.C. Penney's in Charlottesville, VA, was teh most public bathroom I have EVER used in the US. Ick.

3. About a year and a half ago....
I had a flood in my apartment and was without water for a few days. The nearest place to go was across the street at the WalMart and it was surprisingly clean. Normally though, I try to only go at home.

6. Retail bathrooms...
Edited on Sat Feb-28-09 01:01 PM by Chan790
Cleanest: Starbucks
Dirtiest: Sears

Really though, it's a function of location. Urban locations or other locations where one would expect higher restroom traffic tend to be dirtier in my experience. The dirtiest restroom ever though wasn't in a retail space, it was the lab/clinic where they do medical testing and drug testing for work. The toilet wasn't held to the floor except by the drainage pipe and it leaned 30-degrees to the left. The floor was un-tiled except for the tile glue which was yellow against the concrete floor, the toilet hadn't been cleaned in weeks, the sink had one faucet-tap and a vice grip on the other spigot and there was a pile of paper towels in the corner. Did I mention this was a medical clinic? Like the one you'd go to for immediate non-emergent care?

8. Locally, Dillard's department store in my nearby mall has very nice ladies rooms
and Sears are the worst in the mall.

Starbucks are always clean. Oh and Pei Wei has great restrooms.

McDonalds vary greatly

I have a recurring nightmare in which I have to find a toilet in the Worst Way or embarrassing and painful things will occur. In this dream I find all sorts of opportunities, non of which are usable, for a variety of reasons.

It is a frightening dream.

Worst restrooms I ever encountered in my entire life:

Sears that used to be in the 'old mall' here
the public restroom in the old hospital at Vanderbilt ..they should have been punished for that one..the worst part was it was the employees restroom too.

my first school..man that thing was disgusting. There were days I would have preferred an outhouse.

various gas stations across the South in the period between about 1955 and 1980. The gas station restrooms have improved with the increase in combo gas stations, restaurants and convenient stores. If they serve food they get health inspected so they have to be cleaner.

10. My local Wal*Mart has astonishingly clean bathrooms
The ones at the local KMart, on the other hand, are nightmarish. They look and smell like a giant shitmonster died there during a piss-storm.

13. Agree.
I never complain about the prices at
Starbucks because I am in my car about
50% of my work day, and Starbucks is
my absolute FAVORITE place to stop
and use a bathroom.

Always clean.

I gladly pay the premium price for a
cappuccino vs. stopping at a Marathon
Gas Station and topping it off with
a "french vanilla" whatever it is that
comes out of those coffee machines!

I tell my husband and friends when they
think I am sounding distressed when they
talk to me on the phone during the day...

"1st rule is, ALWAYS assume that I desperately
need to use a bathroom."

It explains the urgency in my voice...

14. a tire outlet near here - it was the most disgusting bathroom I have ever
seen. I was so glad I didn't have to go. And this was some kind of chain - even worse, than say a typical small time garage...

18. Speaking of bookstores, Barnes&Noble's restrooms tend to be very clean. Worst:
most gas station restrooms. Better to squat out back in the weeds.

They're immaculate, spa-like, and have a lovely lounge with couches.

Sears is a hellhole.
