One of my uncles, who is a farmer, met his wife through writing a letter to a farming magazine. It just so happened that one of the people who read his letter was a single woman who was taken by what he had to say, and they struck up a correspondence, and met, etc. He was lucky. It's very hard to meet people in that profession, unless, like my other uncle, you marry the girl who grew up on the next farm over.

8. Being a genuine farmer's daughter

I often wish I had found a farmer to marry.

As it happened, both my former and my current spouse were born and raised in Chicago--about as different a background as I could find without going to another country.
