My mother-in-law is very sick so we moved her into our spare bedroom upstairs and I want to set up her cable TV in my house. We both use the same service. I brought her little TV and cable box over here and wired it up.
It works, but she is not able to get the premium channels that I get downstairs (TVE and DocuTVE). Both boxes are exactly the same: digital converter boxes as our cable company went digital recently.
I suppose I can put a splitter on the line out of my cable box and run it to her TV (without using her box) and she would get the channels. But both TVs would have to watch the same channel and we'd have to change the channel downstairs (no big deal because we don't watch TV much). But I would like to have both boxes receive the premium channels and change channels independently. Any suggestions?
1. It sounds like you need to call your cable company
And get the second box enabled to receive the premium channels. Depending on how the system is set up, they may be able to do it in situ without sending the cable guy over.
I called them and they had to register her box at my address and send some kind of signal over the line to activate it. They said to give it about an hour.
