I have to go looking for their discography now that you reminded me of them.

On edit: Cake's version of Gloria Gaynor's "I Will Survive" has to be one of the only songs I can think of where the remake was better than the original.

4. I keep playing Talking Heads and Daft Punk, the last few days
I listen to Talking Heads when it's dark and Daft Punk when I'm running around. And a lot of Paul Simon in there.

13. William Shatner - "That's Me Trying" is the name of the song I'm digging on.
http://www.amazon.com/Has-Been-William-Shatner/dp/B0002RUPH4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1228189749&sr=1-1

"That's Me Trying" has Aimee Mann, Ben Folds playing guitar & piano on it. The song really surprised me because I really enjoyed it. I was like, wow that was actually GOOD? Shatner doesn't sing as much as he begs, talks through it.

There used to be a good clip of him performing it on the Tonight Show on YouTube but it seems to be gone.

15. I just started watching the show last week. Funny stuff.
It's a parody, but not a mocking one.

The music is a little by the numbers for me, but at least it's not insulting to death metal fans. The people behind it are clearly actual fans of the genre.

And any album that has Mean Gene Hoglan on drums for a song or two can't be all bad. His work in Dark Angel back in the early thrash days is especially outstanding.

16. Yeah, Brandon Small, the main writer does pretty much all the music, and he is a huge metal fan...
Based on the interviews I've read.

Pretty much every metalhead I know loves the show.

20. It was adultswim's top rated show ever for the time slot and 18-35 age bracket.
And Brendon Small is amazingly talented, he did the music for "Home Movies", too - not to mention the voice of the main character, "coincidentally" also named "Brendon Small".

I saw him in an interview, he was a music arts major graduate before deciding he wanted to go into animation, instead. The extras on the "Home Movies" dvd's have him playing some of the crazy type of shit he does for Metalocalypse.

19. Somewhat similar. Includes Dethklok, which is always a win.
Edited on Mon Dec-01-08 11:31 PM by ZombieNixon
I used "Genius" on the new iTunes. I selected Meshuggah's "Future Breed Machine" as the seed, and it gave me random selections from:

Meshuggah
Dark Tranquillity
Job For a Cowboy
Soilwork
In Flames
Scar Symmetry
Soulfly
Symphony X
Dimmu Borgir
System of a Down
Sepultura
Rotting Christ
Blind Guardian
Arch Enemy
Dethklok (:headbang:)
Trivium
Megadeth
Sonic Syndicate
All That Remains

I'm in a slightly worse (or at least heavier) mood.

Soulfly, System of a Down, Sepultura, Rotting Christ, Dark Tranquility - you sure you don't have Cannibal Corpse, Deicide, Carcass, and Rigor Mortis in there, too?

I don't think I updated Genius since I got it, so it didn't show up in this mix.

32. Yeah, I was a little leery at first, but I figure there's little to no harm in letting Apple
cross-reference my library with their own. If it comes across something it doesn't recognize, it gets ignored, and I doubt it has any way to tell if something's been downloaded or ripped from a CD.

The results have been great. It's almost exactly what I wanted. I'd like to be able to set my own tags and choose multiple seeds, but maybe in the next version.

26. Here's the first 15 on my Party Shuffle.

Anyway, my first fifteen:

Total Eclipse Of The Heart -- Bonnie Tyler
In The Wee Small Hours Of The Morning -- Frank Sinatra

You're My Best friend -- Queen
Breathless -- Dio
As The Palaces Burn -- Lamb Of God
A Nightingale Sang In Berkeley Square -- Bobby Darin
Diamonds And Rust -- Judas Priest
Nice Work If You Can Get It -- Frank Sinatra
Green Grass And High Tides -- The Outlaws
Careless Whisper -- George Michael

29. I love "Goodbye Blue Sky"
And it's totally playable on guitar, unlike anything by Yngwie Malmsteen. That guy's just so off the charts he lays a hot fresh turd on every guitarist's face anytime he's listened to.
