I have this problem with cashews. Gesundheit.

So I opened one of those cardboard cans of cashews tonight, the kind with the plastic lid and the peel-back metal foil seal. Well, I accidentally dropped the plastic lid while opening the can, and by the time it hit the floor I'd already eaten the can's entire contents.

I suspect that I may have a problem.

1. I used to have a similar problem, until I discovered my allergy to them.

Things make me break out like poison ivy, only worse.

2. That's actually not surprising

A few years ago I read that unshelled cashews contain an oil that blisters human skin in a manner very similar to poison ivy. Perhaps you have a sensitivity even to the trace amounts that might remain on the shelled ones?

Of course, if you're allergic, then I suspect that the preceding factoid wasn't news to you...

There's a raging debate about whether shelled cashews can actually cause a breakout, or whether they only make a breakout worse. Those having that debate never talked to me. I can stay in a sealed room, eat a handfull of cashews, and within hours look like John Merrick. I love them, but I don't love them that much.
