I am flushed with anger and offer this warning: Flushable wipes are NOT flushable!
This is a serious post, believe it or not. Here it is, Sunday, I am at home nursing an injury which requires me to keep my leg propped up. Decide to do a little vacuuming. Come back in from the sunroom to find that the living room, hallway, bedroom--all hardwood floors--and bathroom are FLOODED, and water is POURING out of the toilet! Not a damn thing I could do but wait for it to stop. Called the plumber who charges weekend rates (here it is $150/hour). The culprit? These so-called flushable wipes! The plumber told me in no uncertain terms that these so-called flushable wipes are anything but. And, as the auger came out of the pipe, guess what was wrapped around it? Those damnable wipes!

So, if you have been pondering purchasing those wonderful little things, may I suggest that you reconsider? Unless you happen to have extra money laying around to pay a plumber. It could have been worse - wall-to-wall carpet would have been a disaster, and I don't know how I would have ever gotten the smell out. Just hoping no serious damage to the hardwood floors.

1. Oh no!
That's awful!

Sorry to hear about the back up. Those wipes should come with a warning.

I have a septic tank, so I'm really careful about what goes into it.

2. The label states that they ARE flushable! Plumber says nothing in the toilet but toilet paper. n/t

3. I use them
but have never flushed them. My 'sixth sense' told me not to. I just chuck them in the waste basket.
I like not having a yucky brush hanging out in the bathroom.
We've had the plumber here more that once for clogged pipes, so I can surely relate.
Recently spent $4500 to re-do most of the system.

4. My turn to say Oh, no! $4,500 - older house? Ours was my husband's grandparents', built in 1945.
We've updated some, and have more updates planned

6. 1924 or 1926 here
depending on the records.
Have seen some funky stuff in open houses:
go into the closet of one for sale in the neighborhood - closet full of old paper and other stuff sticking out of the wall into the closet, mr's pede says what is that behind it....the dryer heater unit...

5. How many did you put in the toilet?

I usually put two in, and it's fine. You may have small pipes. The directions say to only flush 1-2 at a time.

7. you can turn off the water at the toilet
but if it had already started flooding you wouldn't have totally avoided the flood. There's a metal handle at the bottom of the toilet on one side or the other. Turn it.

9. I learned that the hard way too.
My basement flooded badly. And not just water... :( Same reason as yours. The plumber showed us all the piles of "flushable" wipes that had caused it.
