I just saw the most bizarre movie last night - Stroszek
Old Herzog film from the 70's - completely depressing and with one of the strangest endings I've ever seen.

Dancing chickens.

I get most of it, but WTF is up with the chicken? Is the chicken supposed to represent us or something?

1. I think I saw that once
I remember the depressing quality but seem to have blocked out the chickens... maybe I didn't make it all the way through...

2. yeah, it's an awesome and creepy movie
And, yes, I think the dancing chicken is supposed to represent us. Doesn't a coin have to be put in or a button pressed to get it to dance?

3. Yes - and the way those things work is they deliver a shock to the chicken
Not enough to hurt the chicken, but just enough to make it dance.

6. In a way, I think Ebert has a handle on the meaning....
A force we cannot comprehend puts some money in the slot, and we dance until the money runs out.
