Recipe for SOS (creamed beef on toast)
I loved this as a kid! Bon Appétit!

A number of years ago San Francisco's own Marine Artillery General (Brigadier) Tiago, requested/ordered that a recipe for the Marine Corps famous SOS be developed so that it could be serve to a small group of about eight (8) persons, this way the general could have his wife make it at home. The official recipe for the mess halls is for serving 300 or more. This challenge was taken up by his chief field artillery cook, M/Sgt Bernie Parker. After many tries and a few mistakes "Top" Parker came up with the following, near perfect, recipe.

4. I always thought SOS
was creamed dried chipped beef (used to come in a jar) on toast

that is a recipe for hamburger gravy - better on a biscuit, but good as a thick "soup" too (I don't like soggy bread and eat the biscuits on the side with butter)
