It's not all bad, I insisted, because of the injuction "May you live in interesting times." My boys are sure to do that.

It has been a long time, I told my boys, that a President has come to office with a chance at greatness, but the opportunity, such as now exists, exists only because of venality, viciousness, and vapidity.

They may live to see the kind of history play out that is remembered forever.

I am no expert on the matter of Murat, but his life became what it was because it was a time - on so many levels - of poverty.

Murat, David, Robespierre, and the great executed scientist Lavoisier lived and died in interesting times.

David was the only one among who got to be an old man.
