1. I don't think it counts as a Freudian slip...
if they honestly don't know what the word means. :P

13. Nah
Some of my bestest friends are Cubs fans. I wanna beat 'em, but I don't wanna humiliate 'em.

Anyway, it depends on whether the Dragon's got his stuff early. Y'know, you get to him in the first or second or you don't get to him at all.

14. I love the Cubbies
In all honesty, I would have been happy with either outcome to this series, maybe hoping the drought would end after 100 years.

I also did not expect these two teams to meet in the playoffs, being that I wasn't sure about our chances for most of the season.

However, the sooner we do this, the less wear and tear before facing Philly (I think the Brewers are toast).

So I agree, no humiliation, but it has been 20 years since we won a playoff series (let alone 2 postseason games in a row). I feel bad for Lou - he was piloting the Mariners when they fell to Torre's Yankees 7 years ago. Deja vu all over again...

18. I didn't expect to play 'em in the first round
I kept thinking the division series went 1 vs. WC, 2 vs. 3. Completely forgot that if 1 and WC are in the same division, they don't meet in the DS. So, until the last coupla days, I was thinking we'd start with the Mets or Phillies, and I didn't wanna start with the Cubs because I was afraid they'd pound us. Who figured their infield would self-destruct or we'd take their starters downtown?

But, hell — a month ago, I didn't expect to be in the post-season at all.

There're two ways to look at "the sooner, the better." If we win tonight, a four-day layoff might be one or two days too many — guys can get rusty, y'know? OTOH, at this point in the season, it might be what they need, especially Martin and the bullpen and the starters with older arms. But then again, starters get into that five-day rhythm, psychologically, and you never know how a guy's gonna handle starting on eight or nine days' rest. Good for the arm, but also maybe bad for the head.

It's all part of the magic of post-season. :D

20. But if Philly sweeps the Brewers...
Wouldn't that put their rest period on par? Which negates my initial argument. :D

In any event, our bats came alive when their defense took a dive. The Cubs had some struggles in September - I recall reading that Lou gave them a dressing down sometime mid-month. Somewhat like AZ and the Dodgers all season long, the Brewers hit their skid at the same as the Cubs, and the Cubs rebounded sooner, allowing them to prevail. The real race ended up being the East, with the heartbreaking collapse of the Mets. I was expecting we would play them too, for much of the same reason.

When water comes out of the sky, who knows what will happen? :D

21. That was the beauty of it
The first error (DeRosa's?) was like opening a warehouse door. Y'know what managers and guys like Monday always say: Good ball clubs take advantage of mistakes, and we've been a good ball club since the last week of July — an eight-game losing streak notwithstanding.

I was just thinking — knowing the typical home-town Dodgers fan, 5/100 of an inch of rain could keep attendance down to a paltry 48,000. :D

16. I can't go there...
after years of taking theology, listening to those Rapture Rejects discuss something they don't understand (and when one stumbles upon truth (i.e. Jehovah is a bastardization of the Tetragrammaton), they are shouted down by the idiot chorus.) is like listening to children debate what color unicorns are.

24. Considering that some people are actively working to take over the entire USA
(and then nuke the world into a cinder to bring Jesus back, wonder if he'd approve of that with his message of love and tolerance, ya know), I wonder if one will be staged, or at least, as we buzzed Saddam for months hoping to provoke a response adequate to justify invasion and control of all that oil, encouraged directly and indirectly.

Not that Bush and friends would profit even more socially and financially (and in opportunities to mock and feel "more than") from a disaster like 9/11, or WMD, or controlling oil worldwide, or...

Have people gotten it through their heads yet that we're in vast trouble right now, and that extremely Machiavellian nasties are angling and working to control everything? "Look at the bones!"
