My great dane doesn't quite "get" the frisbee.
Okay, so he's only around 7 months old now which isn't the "brightest" stage of life. We got a bunch of free frisbees from Petsmart a while ago, and I tossed a couple to him outside just now.

First, he failed to negotiate the landing. Obviously, not realizing that a flying object would indeed land, he just kept running then stood dumbfounded that the disk done disappeared.

Then, upon retracing his steps, he found said frisbee on the ground top side up. Flummoxed at how to pick it up with his mouth, he proceeded to just stomp on it.

I finally had to come in less I embarrassed him with my laughter. He's currently standing over it, feet astride, barking at it.

1. He wants the Dubya chew toy.
I made them more treats. LMK when it cools off enough down there that I can ship them safely.

2. aw, give him a big hug for me! How cute!
I'd not have the self-control you have and would have been laughing uncontrollably much earlier :D

Danes are certainly soulful creatures, but are they known for their 'smarts'? I have no idea - not that familiar with the breed...

3. Hehe...
you're much kinder than me. I'd be laughing at him. :)

I had a sheltie who liked the frisbee. But only for the first few tosses. I'd throw, he'd catch and bring it to me. Then he'd run, catch it, drop it and bark at me to come pick it up. No more delivering it to me. He was selectively intelligent. ;)

4. Ahaaa! Danes are the best for a laugh, what goofballs!

The funniest thing I ever saw a dog do was one Dane playing a trick on another. The first Dane was distracted by some people coming into the shop where they were hanging out while their owner worked (a pet grooming business). The second Dane snuck up behind the first one and crawled halfway underneath his belly without being noticed, then stood up, effectively hoisting the first Dane's hind feet off the floor. Then just stood there with his tongue lolling out of his mouth, smiling while the other Dane was all WTF?! and just as stuck as he could be. OMG I laughed so hard, he knew exactly what he was doing!
