South End Green Toilets, Hamstead, where George was arrestedGeorge Michael has apologised to his fans for 'screwing up again' after he was arrested at a notorious meeting place for gay men and cautioned for drug possession.
The controversial 45-year-old pop star has promised 'to sort myself out' after he was reportedly caught with a small amount of crack cocaine and cannabis in public toilets on Hampstead Heath in North London.
It is the fourth time in three years that the pop star has been arrested on drugs charges but until now he has been caught only with so-called soft drugs such as cannabis.
A spokesman for the Met Police said: "I can confirm that a 45-year-old man was arrested on September 19 on suspicion of possession of drugs in the Hampstead Heath area.
"He was taken to a north London police station where he received a caution for possession of class A and class C drugs.
A source said: ‘George has always liked smoking a bit of dope and he’s taken it a bit too far sometimes but he’s never really gone much further. It’s pretty worrying.’
The singer was released from custody several hours after having been cautioned for possession of drugs on Friday. Police have said that no further action will be taken.
Michael, whose real name is Georgios Panayiotou, has been open about his use of cannabis in the past, saying that he was ‘constantly trying to smoke less’.
He recently finished his first world tour in more than 15 years, playing 75 dates around the world. But after the run of concerts ended last month, sources said the singer had been at a loose end in his North London home.
