3. not my call
His mother's out of town but gave her permission. Gah! I'm the one who will be waiting at home to see if eight kids in a car come home safe.

2. we saw a shooting star Saturday night before bed
and we live in a mostly urban area. We were just standing there, and whoosh! I used to get up at 3-4 am for several years and couldn't see one to save my life!

Apparently there are several showers throughout August.

Where's the nude beach? Are we talking official or informal skinny dipping? Maybe they will see meteors as well as, well, other things!

8. It's the Perseids.
I look forward to them every year. I'd go out and see them tonight, but it's raining. x( :grr:

Hopefully I'll be able to catch the Leonids in November...

11. Yes. The Perseid meteor shower is happening between 8/11 and 8/13
Apparently, it was supposed to "peak" sometime in the early morning hours of today, Tuesday. After midnite is the best viewing time....but the moon is waxing to full all this week, so that could affect viewing. It's full on Saturday. There's lunar eclipse happening that day, too, btw.

We had no visibility last night to view meteors, due to the coastal fog. :( Bummer.

12. The moon was so bright here last night, I really couldn't see much.
Going to try again tonight and tomorrow AM.

17. Yeah, it's gonna be tricky on a full moon week.
Not to mention the damn fog. It's totally socked in with typical summer morning fog right now.

It comes in around 9pm and burns off midday. Blocks all meteor shower viewing. :(

:hi: Midlo! :pals:

13. Yes there was!
I went outside at 1am EST and saw 5 shooting stars in 5 minutes.

I wished the same exact wish each time - I'm wondering if that will increase my odds of it coming true. ;)

14. My favorite spot for the Perseids is the Jersey shore
Somewhere far enough away from Atlantic City - like the beach at Avalon

It helps to have a hot guy and a bottle of champagne with you, but I imagine the viewing is good even without them.

16. Stone Harbor is a great place for that, too....
I live on a farm in south Jersey - it was pitch black, a million stars and the moon.

No hot guy with me, but he was on my mind the whole time. If he WAS here, champagne would have been brought out. :)

18. How are the tomatoes?
I used to love stopping at South Jersey farmstands, buying a bag of fresh tomatoes, and eating them like apples.

Now I buy "heirlooms" because they taste more like real tomatoes.

19. Tomatoes are awesome, as usual.
:)

But would you believe that the corn crops, which have always been ready to harvest before the July 4th holiday, aren't ready yet? Some farmers are just now starting to harvest, but most of them are still waiting. Weird.
