i really just need something i can plug my iphone into (standard ipod connnection)
i love my phone, but the battery is seriously underpowered. gps sucks it down in a couple hours. then you have no phone. so, if i am gonna schlep volunteers around freakin' iowa, i need to power my gps.

so, time to replace the old radio.

all thoughts welcome. so far most seem to connect ipod by a cord. it would be nice to find one with a real doc built in.

please kick. i don't want to spend all day looking at these things. my eyes glaze over.

1. I just want one that won't get stolen out of my car.
I replaced my very dead factory one w/ the least gadgety replacement system I could get. I just wanted AM FM and a single disc CD player, and a CLOCK.

It was damn hard finding one without Sirius, GPS and a bunch of other shit I don't need or want. I didn't even want MP3 ability, don't have one, don't want one

Bought it in September, drove to Kentucky in October, (the whole reason I got it was the Road Trip)

First week in December, goons got into my car, stole the radio and did some small vandalism,

Yeah, I now know you need to take of the faceplate, but I am old, I never had a radio you could DO that with.

It Sucked.

so don't forget to remove your faceplate.

I may get a new one if I take a road trip this fall.

2. How many speakers are you pushing?
I've had a Sony before, and it was fairly decent. For that price, you're getting a lot of nice features and a 120 dB ratio is very, very good.

4. It's a couple bucks cheaper at Crutchfield

And they aren't a shit-sucking company like Worst Buy. Great customer service.

9. she is getting a 'can this car survive the campaign' look over this week.
she is blowing coolant. not running hot, just a slow blow. i'm hopin its a small hole somewhere, but....
she has almost 300,000 miles on her.
if the mechanics bill is low, i might go with bose. it is big, and the road noise it makes is huge. it takes a lot of sound to be heard.

18. i actually hate those face plates
if i had my way, i would banish lock and keys from this entire space-time continuum. hate them, hate them, refuse to remove the face from the current unit.

14. I would go with an 8-track player myself. And bell bottoms.
If you have to go high-tech, a cassette player is OK, too.

John McCain recommends one of these:

15. i had that model (couple years old though)
unfortunately the auxiliary input failed early on. they may have improved the design since then (got the radio in 2006), but when i replaced the radio, i chose another model.

17. there's some crazy shit there.
don't think i could buy anything, tho. hard not to think about who lost them, and hard not to wonder if everything was on the up and up knowing how many police departments are using confiscated property as a funding stream.
didn't see any ipod compatible units, either.
