It's a picture perfect day in SE Michigan
Clear sunny sky, fresh breeze, and about 65 degrees. I'm going to go clean the garage. :hi:

1. Too cold and windy to swim, kayak, or fish on Torch Lake...
yesterday and today. Even our little pond, Thayer Lake, has good sized rollers and whitecaps. I've settled for making jam all weekend.

Jars of plumb, apricot brandy, strawberry rhubarb, blueberry, raspberry, and black cherry made yesterday...

3. Looks great!
Edited on Sun Aug-10-08 11:52 AM by hippywife
I've been doing the same over the past several weeks with blueberry, blackberry, and strawberry, also sweet and dill pickles. Lots of work but so worth it!

Enjoy your bounty. :hi:

ETA: You might want to stop by the DU Cooking and Baking Group. It's our little oasis of sanity around this place. LOL

7. I just saw your pesto post. YUM!
We'll be canning peppered pickles, jalapeno mustard, and mexican style chili sauce (for pork tamales and chicken enchiladas) next.

Thanks for the invite to C&B, hippywife! I've posted a couple of times, but it's been a while. I'll have more time to post come fall and winter. Just too much going on this time of year...

Here we're heading out to pick apricots yesterday...

My son testing for sweetness...

4. Yum
No edibles from which I can make jam in my yard -- unless there is pine needle jam; I just blew approximately 6 billion of them out of the driveway.

8. We use pine needles as a substitute for mulch...
and curse them for clogging up the downspouts.

I'd much rather be out fishing this afternoon and I think the winds have calmed down enough now to bundle up and head out to hook a few more bluegill. Pulled in 4 over 10" Friday evening!!!

22. Yep, it's near perfect.
It just about kills me when I leave for home (Indiana) at the end of each summer, but we, Mr. Green Meanie and I, can't figure out how to make it a permanent thing until after retirement... which is a long way off. We are only in our late 30's.

Did you get over to Traverse City to enjoy the madness that is the TC Film Fest while you were up?

13. A gorgeous, sunny 73 in Minneapolis.
I should be working in the garden, but I'm just sitting on the porch listening to the ice cream truck go by... Today's view from the porch (cell phone photo, not the greatest):

Nice!

My kids FELL ASLEEP at the family
get-together brunch in Oak Park, and
we left them there.

I'm supposed to be studying.

17. It didn't stay nice; got cloudy, chilly, and rainy
But not before I got the garage cleaned, all the vines trimmed, the pine needles blown away, and the flower bed mulched.

Now a nice WARM dinner; I like a chilly summer evening once in awhile.

18. We have had 3 perfect days in SW PA.
Low 70s, low humidity, partly cloudy skies. I haven't used the AC in days. Down in the 50s at night. It's starting to feel like September.

The upcoming week looks good too! :hi:

Beautiful!

21. I was surprised at how cold it was
not used to that in August. This is about as warm as it got in Australia.
