Mine- a 1971 Toyota Celica. Older than dirt when I inherited it from Mom, but hey- it was a car.

3. Yeah, the one in the pic wasn't mine either...
I doubt I have a picture of mine. The one I had was beige, but otherwise just like that one.

Those 210's were kind of boring looking but bullet-proof, from what I saw...

12. mine LOVED it
I lucked into it with the stroller adapter for $100 brand new from a Craigslister who had got it as a gift and had no clue what it was worth.

After the kid finally outgrew it, I sold it for twice that and the guy who bought it was thrilled to get such a bargain.

101. LOL! That sounds familiar.
My daughter hated the Burley, too. I would strap her in, and she would cry. Not a good bonding thing, either--the only way to talk to her was to yell over my shoulder, which wasn't exactly conducive to safe cycling. The only way to keep her quiet was to stuff the trailer full of stuffed animals.

like this one but mine was bright green and dubbed "The Nuclear Pickle" I'm kind of sad that I don't appear to have a photo of my actual car. Come to think of it I don't think I have ever taken a picture of any of my cars but anyway, I drove that baby until the motor gave out. In retrospect I wish I would have had it rebuilt instead of buying a new car. I loved that car even though in the time I owned it, it never had a functional gas gauge and I got stranded a few times as a result

Bel Air. One very small step up from a Bisket.

I came of age in that car, man. Cruised South Main in it, lost my virginity in it, learned about engines and stuff with it. Inhaled 37 pounds of Bondo dust.

Cried when I sold it.

67. Oh, memories.
Check out my pic in this thread. I had 37 pounds of bondo on each quarter panel!

Didn't lose my virginity in it, but the back seat got a LOT of use. Like a big vinyl covered bed, it was, with the fold down low-back buckets.

Cruised for years in this baby until a 16 year old drunk driver without a license or insurance rear-ended me in a '74 Impala doing about 50.

Saw your pic. That was one sweet ride.

Mine had some fiberglass on it, too. The lower right rear quarter panel rusted through to the trunk, so I cut it out (maybe five inches by 12 inches) and 'glassed a patch. A little Bondo to smooth it and, damn, it looked pretty good for an amateur job. :D

34. 1959 Chevy Biscayne
<>

The picture looks much better than the one I had. Mine had rusted out floor boards and smelled like barnyard.

It had a straight six engine. There was enough room for a person to climb in with the motor and close the hood.

It had a two speed automatic transmission, but there were three positions on the shift lever. Chevrolet engaged in deceptive marketing even back in the '50s

58. How were the gears marked on the shift indicator?
I'm trying to figure this out. Chevy offered only two automatics in '59 — the two-speed Powerglide and the three-speed Turboglide. The Turboglide was an early version of the continuously variable transmission and was the opposite of what you're saying; it showed only two drive positions, 'D' and 'Gr' (for "grade retard," a sort of specialized version of low). In "drive" it went through two upshifts, but you didn't really feel them like you do with other automatics because of the way the torque was multiplied.

But as I recall, the plastic bezel went P, R, D, 2, 1 where 2 and 1 were a single detent. I really can't remember that far back, but it was kind of a joke amongst my friends whenever we would ride in "the '59" as we called it.

Cool story on this car. We drove it from the Bay Area down to the Ontario Motor Speedway for the first California Jam in April of '74. We got there early the night before the show, so we parked real close to the entrance gate. One of my buddies had brought his house speakers along, and we wired them into the 8-track (for you youngsters, Google 8-track for some old school audio!) As the night and party wore on, we had the loudest tunes going and people kept stopping by asking us to play their tapes. Needless to say, their requests were often accompanied by an offer to share their party favors and by the time they opened the gates in the middle of the night we were well on our way to the killer buzz. What a road trip that was!

60. Wish I'd known you then
A friend and I were gonna go to California Jam. We even shoplifted a carton of cigs for the weekend. (I pinned a handkerchief inside my peacoat as a pocket.) We stashed 'em under the front seat of his car, and his dad found 'em a couple days later and made him watch as he destroyed every pack.

I don't remember the details, but that seemed to put a damper on our plans. I imagine the idea was that if we didn't even have the scratch for cigarettes, which were about $4 a carton in those days, it was unlikely we could get it up for tickets and gas and stuff.

My dad and i restored it, and then it was 'mine' for about 6 months, until my older sister called with a sob-story, and talked him into 'loaning' it to her. Her kids destroyed the interior, she destroyed the rest.

~*~*~

Dad made it up to me, though, by letting me have his '75 Grand Prix. I had that one for about 2 years, until it met with a bridge support while going 80mph.

35. 1963 Chevy Impala, 3 on the column *yikes*
Learning to drive on an old clunker with a standard tranny was hard. I think I broke the U joint the first or second time I tried to drive it. Plus it stuck between 2nd and 3rd gear so I had to learn to manipulate the shifter while trying not to lurch using the clutch.

The positive side was that I was one of the bigger cars around and was fairly safe inside the old thing. It got my baby daughter and I where we needed to be. :)

It was rustier than this but the same color.

But the guy at the dealership thought he'd be smart and tell my Dad that it was the same engine the VW Bug had. It backfired & my Dad decided the Toyota was a better car. It was a great car, too. I just freaked out when the mileage got high & sold it for a new small compact car instead.

It is a 1964 Chevrolet Impala with a 283 and three on the tree.

That is my late brother at the wheel...he put an 'echoplex' in it and
my mom covered the seats with that bumpy clear vinyl. It was
white exterior and beige (fawn) interior. The trunk was hugh.;)

It was that shit-brown chrysler color, and the floorboard was reinforced with a 55 MPH sign stolen from the highway, but man, it was a fast motherfucker.

Kinda looked like this:

The Trans-Am owners would laugh at my "mom's car." But not for long.

It was a hand me down from my mom who was a real estate agent. She bought a new one every several years.

This is the exact model and color:

To anyone familiar with Atlanta. When I-285 (our perimeter highway) was built, I got it up well over the maximum 120 MPH that the speedometer went up to.

with it than I was. You couldn't have been less.

I'm glad to hear someone else appreciates that style of car. Whether I had one or not, I think that's one of the best looking cars in that price range ever made. The 3000's are nice too, but I think the 100-6 was just a bit sleeker and sexier looking.

I was too young and far too stupid to have a nice car like that. Someone should have taken it away from me. I want to kick myself every time I think of it.

80. I've never been in a car accident, oddly enough.
Got in a little fender bender on my dad's bike once (some old lady decided to turn right from the center lane while we were in the right lane- broke off one of the turn signals and bent the rear fender a bit- total damage maybe $200) but that's it.

Considering my driving skills :eyes: that's a bit surprising.

What a great car. Unreliable (never buy a '74 anything, kids- it's the year the domestics switched over to unleaded and they weren't any good at it yet,) but fun when it was working.

One of these days I have to get a Camaro, just because every other member of my family has had one at some point.

102. It looked kind of like this Fiat, only with a smashed in rear end, and brown.
I don't remember the exact model or year. It was a Fiat we bought at a junk yard. I had to rewire the tail lights, and one was a generic replacement tail light, duct taped in place. The front seats were already taken out, so I got two replacements. The passenger seat wouldn't bolt down, so it just rocked back and forth when I started and stopped. The driver's seat was held in place by one bolt. The frame was twisted so the clutch cable would break every 75 miles or so, and I learned to shift it without the clutch. Not really good on the transmission.

But as one friend, the only one brave enough to ride in it, told me, it was MINE.

My parents wouldn't let me take it to college for my first semester....so I waited patiently for Xmas break and drove it from NM to CA.... and wrecked it 2 weeks later. Some asshole blew a red light and hit us in an intersection in Santa Monica. That was a nice call home to the parents...but got it fixed and painted it a beautiful red with black stripes. That car was FAST.
