4. I live in a 5th wheel RV.....
this thing rocks in a heavy rain. I hope the winds aren't too bad. I just finished lashing everything down. It is calm now but once the rain starts I won't get a wink of sleep.

6. You have done all you can do.
It will be 65 winds, 85 gusts, at landfall, and very quickly will be just an ordinary Texas thunderstorm.

8. My thoughts too.....
we will soak up most of this. I am by the med center but on the high side so I think we are ok-it is just the winds I worry about.

10. Not this time, just looking forward to the rain.
I was living in a travel trailer in Pasadena when Allison hit, so I know what it's like - anything more than a strong breeze and it's time to rock n' roll!

11. I am ready.
Had to do some outside work to help prevent flooding, but that is all I did.

We have plenty of everything.

I just hope we don't have any heavy flooding like last time.

13. Ayup ...

I got water, a flashlight (batteries), a cat, and cat food so I don't get eaten in the middle of the night.

So, I think I'm set. :)

14. I'm in the Golden Triangle
I went around the yard and put up everything that might get blown around and caused damage.

I have cat food and people food so that is taken care of.

I hope the worst we get is a power outage.

15. Yes it should be.
I'm in Houston on the west side. Doesn't flood where I live.
The water in the yard has gotten up to the slab before, where the porch starts, though.

16. I filled a couple of water bottles for the fridge
but I've gone through much worse. I don't see this as being much more than a "strong" series of storms. We've had worse lines of thunderstorms blow through from the North ;)

Were you around for Alicia, or Claudette (1979), Chantal, Allison and whichever other ones that have been pretty powerful or damaging in the past 25-30 years? I'm in Houston, too, native to the area, though I grew up in the NASA area of town.

25. I have been through all of them....
with Alicia, we were without power for 2 weeks so no well water. That was the worst personally. Remember downtown being closed because of the hazard from the falling glass. I have rode all of those out. Houston really learned from Katrina and Rita. We have a good evacuation plan at this point.

27. I remember the year Florida got hit .....
with so many back to back hurricanes. We sent a lot of aid and workers there. Andrew had to be the worst, but none of them were good.

23. Well,
I stayed up until about 4 this morning. When they gave landfall at Sabine Pass, I felt better. I fell asleep and woke up during the time the eye was over us. I took the dogs out. They have been very calm, a good sign. They really did have their noses to the air more than to the ground this morning, so they know something is going on. The only thing I feel is a bit groogy, but that is from that bottle of wine I drank.

I had more rocking of the trailer in a sudden spring rainstorm earlier this year than this. We are getting some much needed rain. The downside-Hubby works for the UT Police department and is still there at MD Anderson. I packed 3 days of meals for him and 3 days of clothes. I think he will be back before then. The hospital is closed today (except for emergencies and in patients). They really learned after Allison and are not taking chances.

I hope the rest of you are safe and dry.

28. I'm in Baton Rouge....
So no preparations necessary for me, but it has made me realize that I haven't really considered my preparations for this year.

Best of luck to all of the Houston-Area DUers...
