Question for the women of DU regarding relationships with mom & sister
Edited on Thu Jun-19-08 09:35 PM by NewJeffCT
I'm working with this for a Dungeons & Dragons game I'm running right now.

We were getting near to the lone female character's hometown, so I asked the woman playing the character to come up with some ideas for her family...

To summarize, she came up with this: this character was always close to her father, who died when she was 10 years old. Her mother was always sickly and a bit jealous of her daughter's close relationship with her father. However, she was also close to her sister, who served as a peacemaker between the two... A few years after her father's death, this girl of 15 left home to try to follow in her father's footsteps (her father was a noble do-gooder type) she left her sister behind to care for her mother.

Seven years later, the player's character returned home to still find her mom bitter and sick, and the sister (happy little sis was okay) still tried to make peace between the two. However, seeing that her mom was still upset with her (now, adding deserting them for 7 years to the list), she quickly left town again and has been gone for three years. In the meantime, the player's character has become a succesful priestess of an Artemis like goddess. (for modern day purposes, imagine she ran off to join the Peace Corps and is now some sort of regional coordinator for the Peace Corps...)

So, if I were to be playing both the mom and the sister, how do you think they would react to seeing their long-lost wayward girl? I was thinking of having the sister be a bit more cool to the player, with the mom even more bitter and in her last throes. The reasoning behind the sister being more cool is that she's been left to take care of bitter mom for these past 10 years.

Any female point-of-view reactions? Am I way off base?

Thanks for any input at all.
