Poll question: Really don't mind if you sit this one out: Favorite JETHRO TULL tune
"Let's see if we can spot the over 35s in the audience..." Forgive another old-guy poll. I am so far resisting the temptation to put on Bourree.

But I do point out that one can sing "Favorite Jethro Tull tune" to the opening riff of Aqualung.

13. Wind Up

When I was young and they packed me off to school
and taught me how not to play the game,
I didn't mind if they groomed me for success,
or if they said that I was a fool.
So I left there in the morning
with their God tucked underneath my arm --
their half-assed smiles and the book of rules.
So I asked this God a question
and by way of firm reply,
He said -- I'm not the kind you have to wind up on Sundays.
So to my old headmaster (and to anyone who cares):
before I'm through I'd like to say my prayers --
I don't believe you:
you had the whole damn thing all wrong --
He's not the kind you have to wind up on Sundays.
Well you can excomunicate me on my way to Sunday school
and have all the bishops harmonize these lines --
how do you dare tell me that I'm my Father's son
when that was just an accident of Birth.
I'd rather look around me -- compose a better song
`cos that's the honest measure of my worth.
In your pomp and all your glory you're a poorer man than me,
as you lick the boots of death born out of fear.
I don't believe you:
you had the whole damn thing all wrong --
He's not the kind you have to wind up on Sundays.

15. OK .. way over 35
Anything off This Was, Benefit, Aqualung, Living in the Past.

Thick as a Brick & Passion Play ... best served with a fine cognac, or a bold red wine, and a Jamaican cigar.

From Stormwatch "Flying Dutchman".
"Heavy Horses". "Wondering Aloud"

Argh. Wish I could sound as good as Martin Barre.

"Gerald Bostock" is credited as co-author. It's the disqualified boy from the spoof newspaper. I assume he's fictitious, but I'm not 100% sure. IS THERE a person called Gerald Bostock who co-authored that song?

59. I was listening to this song when I was about 30
and it hit me in a lot of ways, such as:

'Cause you were bred for Humanity and sold to Society -
One day you'll wake up in the Present Day -
A million generations removed from expectations
Of being who you really want to be.

Well, do you ever get the feeling that the Story's too damn real and in the present tense?
Or that everybody's on the stage, and it seems like
You're the only person sitting in the audience?

These two verses described my late 20s and early 30s angst better than any others.

Now that I'm 40, Pink Floyd's "Time" is a little too appropriate.

...But while I love "Thick As a Brick," a staggering work of musical madness, I have recently become infatuated with "Reasons For Waiting," from "Stand Up." I only bought the album recently, though I've been a Tull fan since '76. And "Reasons" is such a lovely love song---when I hear it now, I think of my wife (we've been marrried only a few months).

This is a good topic. I wish I knew more Tull fans. Most of my friends think of them as '70s artifacts.

Tull's 'Beltane' off of the 20 Years of Jethro Tull came up on my random MP3 playlist just as I was reading this thread. :)

Favorites - damn. Aqualung got so much friggin' airplay that it's right out. Favorite albums (original, not best-of-type reissues) have to include:

Broadsword and the Beast
Stormwatch
Songs From the Wood

But the live album A Little Light Music is pretty sweet as well... and yeah, Bouree does indeed rock.
