I've been watching the NCAA Women's Fast Pitch softball tournament and I have a question.
The same girl pitched three games in a row for Arizona...,don't their arms ever get tired?

How is this possible?

I pitched baseball in high school and no way I could I have ever pitched two games in a row.

1. The pitching motion for underhanded pitching is much
easier on the shoulder and elbow.

2. The underarm motion is much more efficient than overhand.

7. The University of Arizona softball home field is accross the street from my workplace.
Their athleticism is remarkable. Even intimidating.

The Arizona softball team is among the top programs in the country and a perennial powerhouse.
The softball team has won eight NCAA Women's College World Series titles, in
1991, 1993, 1994, 1996, 1997, 2001, 2006 and 2007 under head coach Mike Candrea (NCAA Softball Championship).
The team has appeared in the NCAA National Championship in
1991, 1992, 1993, 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998, 2001, 2002, 2006 and 2007, a feat second only to UCLA.

6. Less stress on the shoulder...rotator cuff...
But amazing to watch those pitches. It does take incredible control.

9. The overhand pitching motion...
especially if you throw a lot of curveballs and splitters, is extremely stressful on the arm. It really is one of the most damaging motions in all of sports. Pitching underhand is much less stressful but I bet top softball pitchers could probably strike out major league hitters...the shorter distance makes up for the loss in velocity and the release point of the pitch is different than in baseball, all told it makes it really difficult to get around on a pitch.
