They look very young. They probably really believe all the propaganda they've heard, believe they're fighting for "freedom", believe they're doing the right thing. Somewhere, their mothers are missing them. And I wonder how many of them survived the war.

Boys playing with a cat. And a grenade. Sort of a juxtaposition of innocence and violence. I find it sad.

You had to be a hardcore nazi to get into the SS. don't know about the other two.

I'm not 100% certain, but judging by the collar tabs and the patch on the sleeve of the rearmost soldier, I think they might be Latvian. But then again I'm not 100% certain.

The near one has the ribbon of the Iron Cross, 2nd Class, the guy next to him has the Assault Badge and the one farthest from the camera has a wound badge.

Those SS guys weren't drafted and knew exactly what they were there for. I've got no pity for them, just the cat.
