More ENTERPRISE gossip
snip.........

According to this source, ENTERPRISE star Scott Bakula recently had a "secret meeting" with Garry Hart, President of Paramount Television Productions. As we reported last month in the second report from our scooper, Hart is reportedly in the corner of the struggling TREK series and trying to actively find a way for the show to avoid the executioner's blade. At the time our source told us that Hart may be waiting until after February sweeps to see how the show performs in the ratings and then possibly announce a change in ENTERPRISE's production staff. It may be that producer Rick Berman, the captain of the franchise since the death of Gene Roddenberry in 1991, may be shown the door.

Our source states that Hart met with Bakula and a discussion about "the future leadership and direction of the show" was held. Notably absent from the meeting was Berman. "As I mentioned previously, although there had been talk of replacing Mr. Berman, there was no mention of his possible replacement," our source says. "Hart may now be working with Bakula to put a new production staff in place to save ENTERPRISE."

Again, it must be addressed that our source is choosing to not reveal their identity, so we cannot give any further weight to the validity of what they are telling us. Nevertheless, the tone of the statements coming from UPN and CBS executives are, at least on the surface, matching up with the air of doom and gloom that our scooper has been telling us all along. In short, we can't give the stamp of approval to what our scooper is saying because we weren't there. What we are saying is that where there is smoke there sometimes is fire. Was there a meeting between Garry Hart and Scott Bakula talking about the future of ENTERPRISE? Is there a plan for a creative shakeup to save ENTERPRISE from cancellation? And will more of what our source is telling us be confirmed -- or proven to be false -- in the days to follow?

1. What about Andromeda and why isn't Enterprise on with Andromeda
on WGN that would boost ratings I'm sure.

Sunday nites on WGN here in ATL is Mutant X 8pm, Andromeda9, x-files reruns at 10p. 10p woud be a great spot for Enterprise. I'd watch Enterprise but I can't find it during the week, nor do I watch any serise shows during the week.

3. Because all those shows you mention
are in syndication, not UPN products.

2. Now if Bakula goes duck hunting with Scalia
we'll know something's really up.

4. Well, with Firefly, Farscape, and Battlestar Galactica returning...
in some form or another (or at least, in the works to return), who cares about passionless and cardboard characters, idiotic Tommy Lee Jones impersonators, meaningless technobabble, dumb time-travel plot lines, deus ex machina endings, and hot babes in catsuits?

5. Why didn't they get rid of Berman years ago?
Not that I know anything about the man, or know enough about his helming of Star Trek to advocate one position or the other...

But I have rarely heard of someone who is so universally reviled, both on the internet and in RL. As one of my friends put it: "He had one good idea -- the Borg -- and that was fifteen years ago. It's been downhill ever since." Perhaps just the news that Berman is out would be enough to revive "Enterprise."

Hell, at least it's better than Voyager.

6. The Borg
That's not even an original idea. You could tell from the early episodes that they were "modeled" after Dr.Who's Cybermen.

8. Still, Kef, Greatest Enemy Ever
Intractable, immensely powerful, monofocused, unaware that they're even doing anything wrong. They still are, IMO, the best villain in franchise history.

11. I agree
Who cares if they were modeled after something? The Borg were what made TNG watchable.

9. I've Said It Before
I still enjoy the show and I hope they don't cancel it...I'm sure I'm in the minority though...Yeah, it could be better and canning Berman might help, I dunno...

Maybe they'll hire someone who knows of the concept of "continuity."

13. "Enterprise" ran off the rails of the "Star Trek Universe"
The "Star Trek Universe" became all about hope for the future.
The TNG Federation was clearly a force for good and enlightenment.
Even DS9 and Voyager were extensions of this hopeful universe,
although DS9 clearly explored some bleaker corners of it.

By comparison, the "Enterprise" Earth is just a bunch of folks
who had the moral equivalent of the World Trade Centers disaster
and are now looking to act all macho and kick somebody's ass.
Sorry, but that's way too much like real-life America to be
entertaining.

15. Not Only That, Atlant, But. . .
. . .the concept is fatally flawed. Since we already know what happens for the next 200 years, exactly how did they expect to create any suspense and drama?

No enemy, no matter how intractable, would create tension, because we know that 200 years later, the Federation is the preeminent alliance in this fourth of the galaxy.

So, no matter how nasty they try to make the villain, we already know they either lost a war to the Federation or they weren't intractable and became part of the Federation. Either way, the ending is already a fait accompli.

Without any way to create suspense and drama, they needed superlative writing and terrific characters. The interpersonal relationships was all they had. Instead they spent time on extrinsic conflict, which was never going to work.
