OK, I'm thinking about going to Costcutters for my next hair cut/styling. Am I crazy?

They charge $13.95 for seniors. I have been going to a nice salon for 10 years and I just can't see my paying $50 plus tip every month anymore.

My hair style is relatively simple but I can't stop having it trimmed without my getting "Jerry Lee Lewis hair," that Southern pouf deal with "wings" sticking out on the sides.

Am I taking a chance of looking worse than that?

1. If it's like "Supercuts" in my area
it's the luck of the draw, depending on which stylist you get. If you find someone good, you then have to hope they don't leave for a better offer.

However, if your hairdo is simple, there's probably not too much damage they could do (famous last words)!

Ten bucks, plus you can tip like a rich person.

4. which one?
I use the one in Southington...they do a alright job if you bring them photos to copy your hairstyle from. Otherwise, you might be taking a chance.

5. Depends on how much you care about what your hair looks like,
or how complicated the hairstyle you like.

Costcutters does not hire the people who graduate top of their class at beauty school. They're pretty much grabbing up the bottom dwellers.

Think of it this way - one can trust a "chef" at Denny's to serve up a nice stack of pancakes, or a french toast and hash browns, or perhaps even a French Drip sandwich. But I ain't going to that guy if I want scallops, a steak, or salad made with anything other than Iceberg lettuce.

6. Okay, I tried the Costcutter place twice.
It wasn’t Costcutters, but something like that that moved into my neighborhood and they were so convenient, I wanted it to work.

The first time, the cut was OK, but the stylist would pat the hair she just combed, not a little pat, but a big pat, and it hurt and was jarring. When I asked her to be more careful, she became angry and acted like I thought I was special.

The second time, with a different stylist, I had a picture and showed her what I wanted. She gave me a bob, what I asked for was more of a shag. I swear, she knew one cut and couldn't figure out how to do anything different.

Seriously, the people who work in those places are just out of school. You know, your hair will grow back, so try ‘em. I would have loved it if it had worked out for me, but I decided that even if I had to drive and pay more, it was worth it.

7. I have baby fine straight hair. It doesn't matter
Edited on Mon May-05-08 05:19 PM by LibDemAlways
if I pay $50.00 or $15.00, my hair looks exactly the same. Try the discount shop once and see what you think. You might be able to save yourself a boatload of bucks. If you don't like how it turns out, there's good news, too. Your hair will grow back, and you can always return to your pricier place.

9. I would suggest that you try it
but don't do anything different...just tell them to trim the existing haircut.

I have long straight hair...not much to mess up there, so I will occasionally go to CostCutters if all I need is an inch off the bottom or something. But I go to a more expensive stylist if I want STYLE.

Trim = CostCutters. Style = $50 (or more).

10. Thanks. That's exactly what I need, a trim.
I also have a picture that shows what I am talking about.
