Poll question: Do you watch Inked, Miami Ink, or LA Ink? Are YOU inked?
I'm just curious what the comparative percentages are between those who are decorated and those who aren't.

1. There are shows?
My son got a HUGE 'decoration' of a Celtic knot on the back of his shoulder. Me - I'm quite 'needle phobic' and, of course, I think of what a 'decoration' will look like when everything starts going South. :)

2. Until today, i had only seen one episode of "Miami Ink"
I'm inked up, and i'm working on a research paper for my English class (basic academic writing... research and argument). Had no idea until i started this just how much positive exposure tattoo/ing is given in the media now (i only watch news when i watch tv at all), as opposed to how it was when i got mine done i the early 90s.

3. I want to get a few Celtic tattoos.
And I watch LA Ink when there's nothing else on.

9. I'd like to get something done in Celtic as well...
It's sometimes tough to find artists who are comfortable with it, though, because one slip on what goes over/under which can ruin the look of the whole piece.

4. A friend of mine's step son
is married to Kat on Miami Ink

he's a tattoo artist too

honestly I watched it to see her and him.

I dunno, what's the appeal?

I'd rather hang out at the tattoo parlor I think...
but I guess I can't do that.

So I hang out here instead.

21. Kat is divorced, and she broke up with Roy Orbison's son.
They left us hanging with that one...

5. The LA Link place is around the corner/few blocks down the street from where I live.
I watched the storefront get redone and opened up in record time, and thought "hmm...wonder what this is going to be." Little did I know... And the nights that they're filming in the tattoo place, traffic on La Brea is FUCKED (which makes it a challenge getting home at night, thus making me unnecessarily cranky).

Best tattoo parlor in LA, btw, isn't LA Ink...it's the Purple Panther on Sunset. They've done 2 for me over the years, and I'm seriously considering #3.

6. my girlfriend gets most of her tattoos done at Purple Panther
She saves up money and waits until she'll be in LA (we used to live there, but moved away two years ago) to get a tattoo done. That's how much she respects them. There's a guy there named Graham who's done almost a whole sleeve for her and one on her leg. Other people there have done some of her others (she's really inked up). They all seem to be good, and the people are nice. I get a bit bored waiting around though, and walk down to Amoeba.

8. Graham's the head honcho, and VERY good.
He's an incredible artist. The number 2 guy, Ace, is who does mine (big blonde guy with dreads...he's a riot).

You walk all the way down to Amoeba from Purple Panther? Geez, that's a couple miles, at least!

11. I think Ace has done some of my gf's stuff as well
She likes him too. I do walk all the way to Amoeba! It's only a mile or two.... or three. Not too long. I know that walking is forbidden in LA, but I'm used to it from living in other places. I do wish that the subway stops weren't so far apart around there, or I'd take the subway, which I've found is really nice - just not enough stops, and doesn't run late enough. Do you take it much?

12. My apartment is about midway between Purple Panther and Amoeba
I live on Hollywood Blvd, and I've walked to both places--so that's a good walk to go from PP to Amoeba! I love walking around my neighborhood. It's really pedestrian-friendly (as you know); I also love taking the metro whenever I want to go downtown for anything. There's a station at Hollywood/Highland, about 5 blocks from my place, so it's SUPER convenient.

14. When I was in getting my back tat embellished last July, I watched Graham freehand a full sleeve.
No telling how late the guy was there that night. I'm sure he didn't do the entire thing that night, it was obvious Graham was going to be working for quite awhile on him.

I've never watched LA Ink, but I strongly doubt they're better than the guys at Purple Panther.

10. I used to watch Miami Ink
I haven't in a long time though. I'm thinking seriously about getting my 2nd and 3rd tattoo soon. I want a bracelet on my right wrist and something on one of my ankles. I was thinking of something signifying my three kids on one of them. Butterflies or flowers...dunno. I will probably design something myself.

15. I have many tattoos. I got "carried away" when I lived in San Francisco.
Edited on Mon Apr-21-08 02:02 AM by quantessd
I just hung out with people who had a lot of tattoos, and I thought it looked cool, and so I got tattooed as well. I earned a Masters degree before I got most of my tattoos.

These days, I am around people who aren't as heavily tattooed as I am, but that's okay because I wear long sleeves most of the year.

Edited, because I spelled tattoos with 4 t's.

16. 7 tattoos...watched both...don't like Miami Ink
I enjoyed Inked when it was on because it seemed more comedic and ramshackle and pretty much showed every element of the process including the absurd personalities of everyone involved, and it showed all types of tattoos from the intricate, meaningful ones, to the silly ones with no thought whatsoever.

Miami Ink is unwatchable because they attempt to make every single tattoo seem to have some huge, emotionally significant personal meaning, when the reality is that most of them aren't. And it tries to portray the guys at the shop as tortured artist types.
