Leave it to the French to screw up us Americans - GRRRRRRR

Rapture Index dropped a point because those pansy French Frogs decided to reduce their number of nuclear warheads by a third.

Why are the French so selfish - do they not care about the rest of us here in American

I think the French owe us each a car since clearly they aren't helping us get them free via the rapture

1. I'm reading a very fine book about Benjamin Franklin's
trip to France in 1776 "A Great Improvisation." The more I read the more I like the French. They done did us good back then.

12. Jesus walked everywhere
Funny how selective some of his followers are about emulating him.

6. What is that?
At one time, I was fluent in French and when I was teaching HS French, all the kids wanted to learn how to cuss. :eyes:

10. They're a trilogy of plays by Alfred Jarry.
Very strange. Originally performed by puppets back in the late 19th century, the three plays, Ubu the King, Ubu Cuckolded, and Ubu in Chains (English-language versions), follow the story of Pa and Ma Ubu, rulers of the mythical land of Poland (which didn't exist at the time). Pa Ubu is a corrupt, grotesquely fat, white version of Idi Amin crossed with Dick Cheney, who has become king through evil, bloody means. The plots of the plays had elements of Hamlet and Macbeth, and the whole trilogy taken together has a kind of Grand Guignol, tragically absurd quality that is very compelling. Jarry's life was similarly absurd and tragic. He was around four and a half feet in height and lived in a closet under someone's stairs. His final request when he died very very very young, was a toothpick. Odd fellow.

Anyway, though merde is the actual French word for "shit", Jarry lengthened the word to merdre as you've done, and stuck it at the beginning of the first play. In fact, merdre is the first word in the whole show, and when it's translated into English, it's usually written out as "Sheee-yit!" So that's why I was wondering if you were a fan of Ubu, because I'd never seen merdre except for there.

I was even thinking of adapting the plays as a musical, but probably someone has beaten me to it.

11. Yeah, but the French will recycle
those warheads into nuclear power plants. They seem to like those things.

On the other hand, if they're giving away cars, sign me up. Wait. I had a Renault once. Never mind.
