10. I would say Natalie Merchant
partially because of a personal formative experience. We went to see REM and 10,000 Maniacs opened for them. Natalie Merchant just didn't know when to let go. She leapt back onstage the first 15 minutes of REM and whirled around. She yanked Michael Stipe's hat off and paraded around. It was pretty obnoxious. Also, I don't care for the affected way she rolls her Rs. "The Painted Desert" is the only song of hers I think is really good.

My first choice in your poll would have been Suzanne Vega.;-)
