Wireless networking question?
I just bought a Linksys wireless N router. I have it set up fine on my desktop computer after following the install instructions. I tried to connect to the network using my lap top & I can't connect to the internet. I am connected to the router but for some reason it won't let me on the internet. Do I have to set up the notebook seperatly? It already has wireless built in along with bluetooth. How do people connect at starbucks? At other wi-fi hotspots?

1. Have you established a connection to the router?

5. I signed onto the network, no problem.
The thing is it will not connect to the internet. It shows the network fine.

8. Yes, I installed the network from my desktop.
It is just the lap top that won't connect to the internet.

2. Your laptop needs to "find" the network.
Find out what it's named, and search for the connection. Enter your password (if you have one) and log on.

6. Yes.
Both settings on the properties page are set to auto. I tried typing in the default IP in and still no luck.

9. Is your laptop ready for N?
Or can it only do the older a, b, & g WiFi? Do you need a separate N PC Card?

10. Open a DOS window and try to look up an address
Start ->Run ->CMD
Type: nslookup www.google.com <enter>
If it can't find the IP address then you don't have a Domain Name server.
In the same DOS window type: ipconfig /release <enter>
Then get a new address by typeing: ipconfig /renew <enter>
Hopefully that will get you a new addrsss and get you connected
