1) is to go to a DU Meetup like we did on Saturday. It was great fun.

2) is to stay inside and snuggle with our Significant Others.

3) be active.

keep a survival kit in your car, include jumper cables, warm dry change of clothing, water, nonperishable snacks
keep the car running well and top off the gas tank for trips.

Actually, I did feel like I'd fit in once, and I never expected to - having tried the gathering participation in the past... 'twas a bit over two years ago... or was it three? I hate time. For something so constant, it's impossible to remember the dates. They don't jump around like those wretched beans you want to hit with a large, stain-resistant mallet... But I digress; it's one of the few days I felt like a real person...

15. I'm blissful.

When you come from a place where summer lasts from mid-May through the end of October (with temperatures rarely dropping below 100 for much of that time), and you have MS, and can barely function in the heat, you may come to understand.

I had always HATED the cold. Hated cold, hated wind, hated snow, sleet, and every other nasty thing about winter. Loved Texas, but I just couldn't live there anymore. I missed gardening, but I couldn't do it in 104 degrees. Sprinted from the car to the house and vice versa because I couldn't stand to be outdoors for more than 10 minutes at a time.

I am loving the cold. And there are folks who really dig it, as opposed to the heat. As long as you have lots of layers and dress for it, no big deal. :D

Well I did grow up in the state and have 4 years in NW MN in the Red River Valley, including the epic winter of 96-97. Even this winter is nothing compared to that, which is my personal yardstick.

19. It's not that cold. Hell, it hasn't been really cold here in about 10 years.

There was one February morning in (I think) 1997 or '98 when the actual temperature, not the wind chill, was about -30, and my car wouldn't start, but I had an extra battery, and I nearly froze my ass taking the battery out of my car and putting in the warm one so the car would start. That sucked, THAT was cold. This ain't nothin'.

We went out to the cars and started them every hour, once we got to the motel in Milbank.

It wasn't pretty. This white cold stuff falls from the sky and it doesn't stop until April or May. This happens every year! The natives call it "snow". I call it "crap that's hard to shovel".

The entire downtowns of Minneapolis and Saint Paul are connected in a maze of bridges at the second floor level. Once you park your car you never have to leave the indoors, summer or winter.

27. Though I grew up in Minnesota and even went to college here, I got married and we headed off to

beautiful sunny Tucson Arizona. Now, for all yous peoples who think that Tucson might be for you-- it isn't, so don't think about moving there. It's HOT. And you'll make it too crowded.

But for a guy who grew up in freezing Minnesota, it was bliss. Though our kids were born there, we moved back to Minnesota to raise them around our families and their cousins.

But we are so close to the empty nest, we can taste it! We have already bought the land, and we headed back one day. :bounce:

That is what keeps me going during weeks like this. :hi:
