All of a sudden, kitteh won't let us clip his nails...
We've done it before, no problem...Today, I clip 3, and get to the fourth, he starts crying and thrashing, and pulling the nail back. Ok, maybe he has a sore spot on that paw, I'll try the other one...nope, same thing. x(

He *really* needs them cut....I don't know what to do. Sigh...

1. Our 18yr old won't let us anywhere near her feet
Edited on Sun Feb-03-08 11:51 AM by Godlesscommieprevert
I resorted to taking her to the vets for a clipping, and it was over in minutes - "oh, she was so good and so quiet!"
Whereas with us she becomes a raging maniac!

2. He's never acted like this before...
I'm really surprised. Normally he is disgruntled, but just lets us do it. Weird.

3. Maybe after a certain age they figure they really don't like it!
I know ours doesn't. It's well worth $11.50 to get her done, otherwise she's catching her claws all over the furniture.

4. Claw clipping -- always a struggle.
My two big guys wiggle and protest. The little girl simply will not permit it.

Right now she's trying to climb the large potted ficus tree in my living room so she can eat the leaves. I guess I'll have to take another shot at the claws. :scared:

6. Nope, I was very careful...
I think he's just being difficult...I'll try again after a nap, maybe.

7. My mom used to clip her cats nails.
I think now she's just given up on that and just keeps a spray bottle of water in every room now.

8. I know that cat's will be all like, "Oh, SNAP!!" if their claws are clipped too deeply...
http://www.felinefuture.com/health/clawsofthecat.php Tim has a scratching post, I just vacuum up the husks and he's good with that :)

http://www.declawing.com/htmls/declawing.htm A disturbing set of information, some pics here illustrate the active part of the anatomy of a cat's claw :(

9. Kyra acted like that for a while
Spencer still sometimes does...

I wrap them baby-style in a blanket or towel and pull one foot out at a time. They hate it, but the nails get trimmed with minimal fighting.

10. My female Esme is the only who needs clipped...
...the boys are outside enough to wear theirs down.

She squalls and growls and bitches, but I don't back down...
and I keep telling her what a good girl she is (hey, she isn't biting or clawing me!) and then she gets catnip when it's done.
:bounce:
The only 'treat' she likes is tuna water, and I'm NOT going to open a can of tuna fish just for that.

11. Someone once suggested to me that you only clip one paw at a time.
That way if they fuss it is over with sooner and you can try again with the other paw a few days later.
