Do you ever imagine the people on here as their avatars?
like, when you picture that person in your mind, do you think of their avatar?

I do... at least if their avatar is human.

It would be pretty disconcerting if the people on here pictured me as a rubber duckie...

6. I don't so much picture them as their avatars
But I associate the avatars with specific people. So when everyone changes to a specific candidate, for example, I get totally confused - I'll be reading a thread and there will be 13 different Hillary Clinton avatars in there. I lose track of who said what.

That probably just means I'm an idiot though.... :P

7. I used an avatar of my husband and me from the 1970s. Then, I abandoned it.
So I hope you don't think that I am........nothing.

Boo-hoo!

Cordially,

Radio Lady Ellen and Audio Al

PS. Here's a rogues' gallery of pictures over the years.

1955 with my first boyfriend on Sanibel Island, Florida

My first job: January 1957 at Wometco, Miami, Florida as a children's show host

February 4, 1973 -- Our wedding day (Those two little rugrats are now in their late 30s)

1970s Mother's Day -- All five kids and husband's hairpiece, later discarded

Egypt in the 1980s -- I really didn't want to take a ride on the camel!

Holiday Inn, Giza, Egypt 1980s

Mexico at Tulum with Mayan children -- 1990s

2006 on horseback in Arizona

Guess I could use this, but she looks SO OLD!

33. Thanks, Bob. I was only 15 in that "beauty" shot and about 40 in the Giza shot.
Lots of water under my "bridge" so to speak... I have everything I used to have, it's all just a little bit lower and wider... Thanks for the smilies, sweetie. So, how's the medical work going for you and your wife? Planning anything fun to break up the Washington winter woes? We had about two inches of snow tody and they called off school. All the neighborhood kids were out trying to sled on the street. It was so FUNNY!

We're on a plane to Hawaii in late February -- going to Oahu for four days, then a couple of lazy weeks on Kauai and the Big Island. Should be good for this water loving babe and her digital photography enthralled husband!

Cordially,

Radio Lady Ellen

40. Hey, cool! Late in February, me and Mrs. Aristus are going to Cancun.
My in-laws invited us along as they do every year when they go. Since they are retired and my wife and I have to work, it just hasn't been possible. This year, they offered to let us use their Frequent Flier miles to pay for the tickets down and back. That put the round-trip airfare for the two of us at a little more than $600. A deal we couldn't pass up; so Cancun, here we come! B-)

Enjoy Hawaii, Radio Lady! :hi:

Wonder where these Mayan children are today? We met them on our Mexican odyssey decades ago.

Bravo for your in-laws in making that possible for the two of you. This is an excellent time of year to catch whatever tropical heat you can and "bake your bones" for the rest of the winter in Washington! Just remember, the sun is much stronger at those latitudes and you can ruin a good vacation with a painful sunburn. We see it in Hawaii and Florida all the time.

If you're brown eyed and you tend to tan more than burn, it's still risky to remain out in the sun for more than 15 minutes to 1/2 hour. If you're blue or green-eyed, with a light complexion and blond or red hair... please take precautions with sunblock and EVEN LESS unprotected sun exposure!

The arrangement sounds like what we try to do with our children, all of whom work. We're busy even now trying to plan some vacation time with them and also THEIR in-laws. The extended family gets along very well -- at least those who have chosen to befriend us! We're fortunate that we can pass along our timeshare and travel benefits so everyone has a break from the day to day life, which can be stressful and difficult at times. Of course, I always tell my daughter and son-in-law, who live in the same town as we do, that they should remember how good we were to them when we get old and possibly useless! (Actually, I have a favorite line with my daughter. "At least, when I'm in the nursing home, please see that my socks match!" I don't know where that punchline came from, but it has become kind of a standard retort!

We were in Cancun and Cozumel in the 1990s around Christmas and had a magnificent time. I think we stayed at the Marriott hotel, which was beautiful BUT -- the location was not perfect. The reason is that prevailing winds and tides and the ocean itself were very turbulent and we NEVER could swim at the beach owned (or occupied) by the hotel itself. Now, that may have been a winter phenomenon, but the posted signs FORBADE swimming at their beach. We were busy with the gorgeous pool and the exploration of the Mayan ruins (Chichen-Itza, Tulum, and Coba) and that took up most of our time.

The Yucatan peninsula is amazing and I'm glad we went; not sure I'd go back because Mexican roads are totally ridiculous and the busses transporting tourists at that time were not very well equipped. (Oh, dear! I spoke too soon. I just found out that hubby is considering another jaunt to Puerto Vallerta, Mexico -- where we had an excellent vacation years ago.)

Chichen-Itza (I don't know if that is the proper spelling, so please forgive) is well worth seeing, but the bus trip there and back on a very hot DECEMBER day was extremely difficult. There was one little part of the area where a Pepsi vendor had some ice and a little bit of shade -- I spent most of the couple hours drinking soda and shoving pieces of ice in my bra and down my back (NO KIDDING!).

Tulum by the ocean with breezes was much more refreshing, and the day in Coba, I encouraged my husband to go with the tour group and LEAVE ME ALONE by the pool for the day. (It was a wonderful day of relaxing, reading, refreshment, and talking to other tourists.) My husband is a dynamo, five years OLDER than I am, but with more energy in the tropical heat than I can muster.

Do try to get into the little town of Cancun -- we went on a rickety bus with the local folks, and I tried out my high school Spanish. Everyone was friendly and wonderful. That was in the 1980s and we gave wrapped Christmas candy to all the beautiful children while we walked around looking in a lot of little shops. I don't know how the town has changed in all the ensuing decades. You also have to deal with reports of criminals all over the world who will do anything for your jewelry and money -- and sometimes in the most beautiful tourist areas, unfortunately).

Anyway, have a wonderful trip, and bring back some photographs to share, if you can. Can I wish you a happy "MEXICAN 2nd HONEYMOON"?

Cordially,

Radio Lady Ellen
