I got called a communist
Edited on Sun Jan-27-08 05:21 PM by sakabatou
by Ron Paul supporters

Me: No, I believe that ALL of the Republicans' plans will screw the country in the ass in one way or another. Do you really think that privatization is THE BEST for this country?

Them:So you are basically a communist?

Yes privatization is the best. The government has no business in our business. -of any kind.

Me:

Way to misinterpret. I'm not saying that the government should control everything, but there should be a reasonable balance between the private and state sectors of business.

1. What you should have done
was say that you were indeed a member of the Communist Party USA and so are all Democrats and as soon as we win this election everything is going to be collectively owned. It would be interesting to see how many picked up on the sarcasm or took it for real.

6. Fuck off, commie!
Seriously, that shows the black and white absolutism that libertarians think runs the world. There's only 2 possible choices to them for anything.

http://www.motherjones.com/news/feature/2008/01/ron-paul-apostles-libertarian-theology.html

awesome article about ron paul supporters.

people really are just so desperate for someone they see as being an honest politician that really says what they believe that they are turning to someone like ron paul.. especially with most of the supporters of him that i know(that are younger).

10. Have you ever considered trying to out-do them by your extreme libertarianism?
Sample conversation:

Them: The only legitimate role for government is to protect private property
You: You want ME to pay taxes to protect YOUR property!?? Why, that's just crazy!!! If somebody wants to burn your house down in the middle of the night, that's not my problem: it's strictly between you and them

Them: We need less government regulation
You: Yes! Let's abolish the FDA! If anybody sells me bad drugs, I ought to be able to hunt them down and kill them without any government interference
Them: Uh ...
You: Well, EXCUSE me!! I assumed you were serious about getting the government off my back!!

14. i think paul's campaign is a mirage
the only supporters i have ever come across are online and not irl...the only signs i see posted are in public areas and never on people's lawns or bumpers...the bottom line is there isn't any "there" there...I also think his supporter/contribution base has been made to look much larger than it is...

several boards, several times. The right just can't take the left views. Too bad, so sad.

18. Nope - they can't
and they are very vocal about it also. I've never met anyone from the left that was so negative about other people's viewpoints. I've also been called a communist or socialist. Fine - I'd rather be called that than uncompromising conservative.

19. here's my canned response to obnoxioius libertarians: you don't matter
now that's only if they are obnoxious.

then i go on to say that until they find a governing majority to implement their ideas, they can call mine all the names they want if it makes them feel better.
