1. The Man Who Knew Too Much by Hitchcock
He remade his earlier film; I rate it a little better than the original.

4. Casablanca is a remake, and a pretty good one.
I think The Fly, from 1986, is an excellent example of a remake, because it takes the concept in a new direction and does so very well.

15. And along the lines of 'The Fly' - 'The Thing' from 1982
both benefit from the advances in special effects.

What's Casablanca a remake of? The famous one was pretty up-to-the-minute in its plot.

6. An Affair to Remember
Remake of Love Affair into a cheesetastic Cary Grant/Deborah Kerr-fest. Just forget the noble remake back into Love Affair. Pah. Keep the cheese!!

8. The Maltese Falcon (1941)
Edited on Fri Jan-04-08 08:41 PM by Winebrat
It had been made in 1931 and again in 1936 as "Satan Met a Lady."

John Huston got it right.

10. Heaven Can Wait
w/ Warren Beatty and Julie Christie (and the hilarious Charles Grodin). It's a remake of "Here Comes Mr. Jordan" from the 40's.

14. Like hell it is...!
I detest that Warren Beatty ego-trip mangling of a great early Hollywood "dramedy." :spank:

12. Batman Begins
Not sure if that's exactly a remake but it certainly 'revived' the Batman movie franchise.
