Are low rise jeans totally OUT now?
The AOL start screen is calling them one of the worst fads of 2007, as if it's all in the past. Is it in the past in your area? I still seem to see plenty of them.

BUT I still see every other female wearing them here in CA. Then again, we were slow to lose the big hair, too.

4. They are rather silly.
I mean, if a girl has curves, it'll give her a double curve right there (nicknamed a 'muffin top' because of the way it spills out over the edge of the jeans) and make her look fat. And if the girl doesn't have curves, she can't even wear the damn things.

That, and they really underrepresent the ass on any girl who wears them. Even a girl with a large posterior will look like she doesn't have an ass if she's wearing low-rise jeans. So the girls what do have curves and asses look both fatter AND like they don't have an ass at the same time. It's just silly.

At my little sister's last birthday party (she's still in high school) one of her friends who couldn't have weighed more than 120-125 pounds was complaining that the low-rise jeans gave her a 'muffin top' and she felt fat because of it. I just rolled my eyes, walked across the room and picked her up with one hand. I think I said something along the lines of, "Oh yeah, watch those donuts." before I set her back down again. :P It's like those jeans are designed to make a natural shape look unnatural. So not only does it look silly, but it can really screw with the person's self image. A perfectly fit girl thought she was fat just because the low-cut jeans accented a bit of body fat that's SUPPOSED to be there.

10. I totally agree.
I hate the double-curve look, muffin top, whatever you want to call it, and super-low-rise jeans give it to girls who are perfectly nice and curvy. Uck. Would also help if girls/women wore pants that actually fit, instead of pants with the 'right' number on them :( (Not sure if I need to don my flamesuit after making that comment, or not)

But yeah, gimme jeans from 1997, thanks.

55. Most women's clothes don't fit most women. They're still made...
for women who don't exist: the hour glass shape. A recent survey of 4000 women, controlled for income and race, showed that only 15% of women naturally have this classic shape. And ALL clothes are made for them!

This is why waists are too high, pinch, etc.

And, unlike men's clothes, women's clothes are not made to be altered to fit the buyer. It's a nightmare. I'm having a suit made from scratch. I can't find a damned thing.

The guy I saw wasn't pulling the "look" off too well. I have seen plenty of women that shouldn't have been wearing them either.........

I have to ask though, are they comfortable? Are they as comfortable as regular jeans? I am an old fart so I am not concerned with "fashion".

40. I'm 53 and I wore low-rise as a teenage girl in the 70s
...when they were called "hip-huggers" so I swore I'd never wear them again. But I soon broke that vow, around 1999, and now I can only hope they'll still be around for a few more years. They help minimize my hip to waist ratio (which is still a lot, even for a matron like me!). And as for "Muffin top" try Pilates! That'll put a stop to all that overhang!

So yes, love them, don't wanna look like Grandpa with the waistband under my armpits anytime soon.

6. I hope so. They look terrible on pretty much everybody.
If you are not actually emaciated you end up with a roll of flab flopping over the waistline, charmingly enhanced by equally-unflattering little tight tops. If you are overweight, even a little, you *really* look fat. That's one fashion that can't become unfashionable any too soon.

15. Properly fitted jeans do NOT result in muffin tops.
Muffin tops are caused by people trying to squeeze themselves into a pair of jeans a size or two too small. Well-fitted low rise jeans with a boot cut are almost universally flattering.

Ultra low jeans - the kind that require a bikini wax - are not flattering on anyone.

Low rise jeans are infinitely better looking on me than at-waist or, God forbid, high-waisted jeans.

46. I love low rise jeans.
You'll never catch me sporting the muffin top look because I know my size but most jeans aren't made for women who have an ass and a waist. I look much better in low rise jeans than in something that squeezes my behind and leaves inches of loose extra fabric I get to try bunching up at my waist with an uncomfortable belt.

Truthfully they are a lot easier on my stomach than regular jeans are. I have a chronic type of gastritis and low risers put zero pressure on my gut.

Since I've gained weight though I look absurd in them. I think you have to have a flat stomach or a fairly flat stomach to pull it off. Right now I look like I'm about to birth a bowling ball.

They are the only jeans comfortable for me. Of course, I make sure to wear shirts to cover what others have so quaintly referred to as a "muffin top" :eyes:

If I wear old mom jeans, they dig into my stomach and waist and make me feel awful. Then I also have a nice big bulge going on anyway. Women just can't win in the end.

24. I hate those things. They have caused kids to be averse to wearing anything at their
natural waistline. Every fall I fit my cheerleaders with their uniforms and all the kids start yanking the skirts down their hips, nearly busting the buttons off. I have to keep going around and pulling them back up. And it isn't even that they are making them universally low. They haul them down in the front so that the hems fall at their knees, but in the back the skirts ride up and expose their li'l tushies. :eyes:

I prefer the natural waistline because (or rather when I was thinner) I had a very hourglass figure and I just felt more comfy with clothes that sat on my waist.

Now that I am heavy, all I care about is that the waistline is elastic. :P

I wear my mom jeans with pride, thank you very much! And I'm not even a mom. My teenage nieces laugh at me. I don't care, their kids will look at pics of them in their low rise jeans with their muffin tops someday, and be the ones laughing.

Hey, I have an hourglass figure, and mom jeans fit best. Low rise jeans would make me look like an idiot. But I think low rise jeans do look good on some people. Just not me.

32. Low-rise jeans are becoming more of a staple than a trend these days.
But let's not confuse low-rise with ultra-low-rise. If you're talking about the later, then yes, the trend is dying. For women right now, the trend for SS08 is more of a skinny jean. Darker washes with shirts in spring colors such as white, reds, and pinks.

Men are a bit more complicated. Judging by a few of the Paris, Milan and NYC shows for menswear, the trends are all over the place. Embroidered pants are big, slightly distressed. Also slim jeans are still popular this year- Dior, Balenciaga, and D&G all seem to continue with the trend. Accessories are what's HOT for men this coming spring/summer. Colored fabric belts in bold colors- bracelets, layered necklaces, and belt buckles!

Regardless of the trend, remember, simple and sexy, and you should be fine.
