Sweet Home Alabama, Where The Skies Are Blue
Nostalgia grows overwhelming at times, though for what is probably best left to imagination....

4. I get in an Alabama Frame of Mind. I like to listen to Shelby Lynne
Wish I could find this on YouTube...

Heaven knows this ain't no Margaret Mitchell
where the oak trees meet the pines
I know it might sound kinda simple
oh but it's mine oh it's mine

Thought I heard a logman cuttin' timber
down the Mississippi line
I'm up the old Tombigbee river
high as the pines, all the time

Elegamment les batos passant
ben on la flota vec du van
all I'm trying to say is I'm
never far away from
Alabama frame of mind

Jubilation risin' on the bayou
celebration in the wind
Father Pat gives benediction
cross the Coden bridge again

Crickets spreadin' rumors by the shoreline
with the lonesome lady whine
crab trap full of nothin
I'm high as the tide, all the time

Sometimes the mists of memory are more comforting than the edges of today.

9. "When we were walking in the Alabama Rain" -- from Jim Croce's fine song
about young lovers in the Alabama springtime rainfall.

Good place, Alabama.

11. Agree. The Top 40 lists can be a useful abbreviation, but many songwriters'
best work goes unheard.

All good wishes to you for an inspired 2008. I look forward to reading your posts on these boards through the entire year.

26. The word 'Alabama' tears me up sometimes
I was in love with a girl from Birmingham for a few years, and she with me.

Like I said - tears me up.

27. I'm back in Alabama again.
Could hardly wait to get out of this place.
I left for Chicago in my 20s.
Then to New Hampshire for many years.
Did all I could to lose my 'southerness' and my accent.
And in the winter of my years, when career was winding down, I couldn't wait to return.

And it was like stepping back into a comfortable pair of slippers.
The accent is back in spades.
There's just something about this place.
I hate the current political situation. I'm in a VERY red county. Not a single elected Democrat in office here.
But in spite of that, it's just good to be back.

I guess you can take the boy out of the South, but you can't take the South out of the boy.
Pass the grits, please.
:-)

28. Hey trof, you reminded me of my favorite song by Lynyrd Skynyrd
All I Can Do is Write About it in which Ronnie sings: "You can take a boy out of old Dixieland, but you'll never take old Dixie from her boy"!
