29. I don't know if you meditate much, but

sometimes focused thinking on calming things, and slow breathing, can help you re-route yourself, even if it just helps you get through the night/get some sleep until you can call tomorrow, or do whatever you need to do then.

My sister, who had just had a double mastectomy, almost lost her house to the fires in San Diego earlier this year; we didn't hear from her for almost 12 hours because there was an evacuation order and I was climbing the walls. I finally just had to go to a quiet room, turn on my white noise machine to "ocean waves" and force myself to meditate. It helped. Not a lot, but enough to keep me from going insane.

my father had a stroke when he was alone and could not reach the phone to call for help. if your friend lives in an apt, maybe you could call the manager, or if in a house, maybe use a reverse phone book to find the number for a neighbor to check in.

don't wait. If you're feeling concerned, it's better to "over-react" than not in such a situation, imo.

in any case, will keep your friend in mind.

If I may: Due to economical difficulties, I have been offline for a few months. I have been back online now for 3 days. The very first thing I did was to ghost through the DU lounge to see who was yet posting in here. I confess to a large smile when first I spotted the name CaliforniaPeggy!
(BTW: I also spotted that name in the latest edition of the DUZY chronicals- Way Cool!)

This may be absolutly inappropriate but....
This song popped into my head when I saw your request here. I had but the dimmest memory of it from my childhood. It was quite difficult to find as I had absolutely no clue who sang it or what the title was. The lyrics became an earworm, with that to go on I eventually tracked it down. Better yet, Youtube had the very version that was my earworm! I have not heard this in over 40 years at the very least but I remember it still as representing warmth and optimism for a bright and sunny future! The lyrics and the way this lady sang this always made me feel that whatever happens, happens for the best.

Music is like that, it is a powerful thing which can create strong feelings in one if they are able to allow for it. Know this: I send you this link hoping that it will inspire that same vibe of warmth and sunny optimism I am feeling for you and your friend right now. If it cheers you up even slightly then it has served my intended purpose. At worst, may it serve as a pleasent "blast from the past" ear-worm for you.

Please reconsider getting his neighbors phone numbers. There could come a time when your friend might not be able to call someone for help. Having a neighbors number at least would give you a valuable resource. Someone who could check in if need be.

I live next door to an elderly lady who is getting up in years, her husband passed away a few years ago. Several times if she needed me I would make myself available for her. Although she thinks she is being an imposition. She's not. I decided to get her sister and nieces phone number in case they ever needed me to check in on her. Our Mailman checks in on her, he is very concerned for her as well, so together I guess we have some sort of mechanism going.
