Which gift are you MOST excited about giving this year?
I bought a digital photo frame for my woman and loaded it up with pictures of friends, family, and pets. It also can play mp3s, so I programmed it to start with her favorite song. I'm going to hook it up while she's asleep Xmas eve, and it will automatically turn on and begin playing the song and photos Christmas morning!

2. Cooking Christmas dinner for the dogs.
With 10 rescues here, it's hard to give them all the attention they deserve. They also get pretty standard fare much of the time (kibble). I'm going to buy a big roast or a couple London broils and some eggs. Divvy it up amongst them. They get REALLY excited when they smell something special here.

Then, I'll air the house out.

3. I bought my B-I-L a nice set of tools.
He is the total Mr. fix-it but he had shitty tools. He already has everything I bought but it is a scattered mess. What I got him comes in a organized case and will work well. He has spent 40+ hours fixing up my new house. He normally charges 30+ for his services.

9. I'm not even giving it, but I can't wait to see the reaction of the receivers.
My BIL is getting the family a new puppy. Their beagle died two years ago, and the kids and my sister have been very vocal lately about being ready for another dog. So, BIL got a small figurine of a German Shepard and wrapped it in a little box. He included a piece of paper inside that says, "Because the real thing wouldn't fit in the box." His mother is going to pick up the puppy on Christmas Eve and keep him until the family sees the figurine. She lives right across the street, and will be ready to bring the new addition over at just the right moment. :D

And for those who may be concerned -- everyone is well aware of what it takes to raise a puppy. We've all been owned by puppies and dogs our whole lives. This little guy will be in it for the long haul. ;)

I love to watch the look on their faces. DH dresses up as Santa and it's always fun to watch those little faces as Santa hands them their present.

I bet your lady will love that digital photo frame. I didn't realize they can play mp3s too.

It's also came with a personalised lab coat and bag, so I'm stoked to see her face when she opens it! The dog, guinea pigs, and I will be subject to many "treatments" in the coming months, I guarantee.

I am also giving her underwear, but it's Hannah Montana, so she'll love it!

(I do declare, I'm going to start wearing it on a strap like a pendant!) because on our way along a country road on this gray day, we saw a round gnarled tree with clusters of golden leaves and a flock of crows on its branches.
Have fun on your photog. expeditions with your granddaughter!

Edited on Sun Dec-23-07 02:05 AM by Contrary1

It's bigger than a basketball! My daughter mentioned seeing one a friend had, and how beautiful she thought it was, and how some day she hoped to have one. Usually runs about $375 in the stores, but I got very lucky on Ebay.

Can't wait to see her reaction.

26. A model pirate ship kit with a set of testor paints for...
my youngest son....the only other person in my family that actually likes building things.

And, I bought a very uncharacteristic gift for my DH: one of those Homedics massage thingies that fit on a high-backed chair and does different kinds of massage from the lower back up to the neck and shoulders. Personally, I found it a little overwhelming, but I think he'll like it. Best of all, since it was a totally spontaneous purchase, he will be completely surprised!

Your digital photo frame is a great idea! I'll keep it in mind for my mother's birthday. :hi:

:bounce: :D We grew our own organic cucumbers this past summer and made garlic dill pickles for the first time. We canned a ton of them for gifts this Christmas for family and friends, hoping they'd turn out OK. Well, they're better than OK----they're some of the best pickles I've ever had! :D I know people will enjoy them, and I'm always glad to give a gift that doesn't suck. :P

36. I sent a box to my daughter in India.
It cost over $150 in shipping. She has lost so much
weight in the months she has been there that her
pants no longer fit, so she NEEDS this package.
(Yes, they sell pants in India, but no stylish
jeans in her size, though if she continues with
this trend....).

Anyway, she is DESPERATE for this package, as it
is basically her only Christmas present! I hope
the Rotary does something special for the kids,
but if they are, it will be a surprise.

I can't wait for it to get to her! We put a bunch
of stuff in there besides the pants, and some X-mas
presents for her host family besides. The postal service
in India is hit or miss sometimes, so we are
crossing fingers and toes that the box gets to her
intact.

43. Hard on ME.
She's having the time of her life.

She turned 16 in September, and except
for wanting to spend HUNDREDS of dollars
every month on the phone to us, she is
LOVING India, and considers herself mostly
Indian now!

She is going on a 2-week long tour of the
south of India next month, and the month after that,
they take off for Nepal and other areas to the
north.

I will NOT be okay until she is back home, but
she is already scheming for her next exchange
(she wants to go the the Czech Republic!).

Well, her favorite books as a toddler and child
were geography books, so I kind of blame myself.
There's just no holding this one back!

Our really good friend recently lost his job, so is worried about paying his rent and his car payment. He has been an awesome guy, helping reprehensor pack and clean since I'm stuck up here.

He is letting reprehensor crash there, possibly for 2 weeks, until we see how his boss reacts to his giving his 2 weeks notice (usually he just fires people who give their notice). Since we REALLY needed to make sure everything went OK at closing, we waited until it was done because we still needed that income. (We got screwed at a closing a few years ago and ended up looking for a new house because the deal fell through).

Because we had to stuff our PODs full of all of our stuff, and we didn't have room for everything, reprehensor cleaned out our pantry and liquor cabinet and at least our friend won't have to worry where his next meal is coming from.

We had our family Christmas on Saturday, and the best gift we all got was that mom was able to take part in it.

She is, and I am happier than I can say about it, and about being able to spend time with her.
