3. Here's a crazy story.
My girlfriend has curly hair.

Her mom married her stepfather when she was four, and they tried to fake her out and make her think he was her real father, since no one else in the family had curly hair, her mother would blow dry and brush her hair to make it look straight. Her whole life she thought she had frizzy straight hair, until one day she didn't blow dry it and discovered she had beautiful curls.

Ps. she no longer speaks to her family.

5. Blow outs
I got my first perm in college. After about 2 weeks one of the Jewish girls on our dorm floor said "You're aware you can blow that out straight if you want, right?" After 19 years of bone-straight hair, the concept of a blow-out was completely foreign to me.

Of course now bone-straight is "in", but back in the early 80's, we all wanted Madonna-esque curls...

6. I got perms in the 80's too
But when I started going gray I didn't want to dye and perm, so now I have straight brown hair. Maybe someday I'll have curly gray hair!

8. She knew a clueless Irish girl when she saw one
Who obviously needed advice about the care and maintenance of lots and lots of curly hair.

I always thought she was sweet until I saw her years later and she said "We all thought you were anorexic in college (I wasn't) but that's obviously not a problem anymore" Yikes!!
