Things you can't do one-handed...
So since I broke the bones in my hand I've found that there are lots of things that require two hands. I can't tie my shoes, so now I have slip-ons. Twist-ties are a pain, mostly in getting them closed. Anything with a screw top lid can be tough, but usually manageable. Another is eating from a light weight bowl or container...I chase it across the table unless I put one of those grippy jar-opener pad thingies under it. It's been a very eye opening experience, to say the least.

Here's my new cast and the kiddo's 'cast' that she made at school...

So what else would you think should be on the list? Have you had something like this?

1. I broke the tip of my ulnar bone a number of years ago, so I hear ya!
I had to have help getting dressed, drying my hair, I couldn't drive (I had a stick shift at the time), etc.

It was very irritating!

6. Had a fracture in my elbow this past February
Had trouble washing my hair, drying my hair, pulling up my pants (there'll be jokes there...), getting clothes out of the washer, buttoning clothes and on and on.

I'm glad you're on the mend.

12. pulling up the pants
underwear, jeans, you name it! I didn't know it took two hands until one was disabled a while back. I took to wearing very loose elastic waist knit pants - oh so ugly!

13. Once, while drunk, I gave myself a 'boxer's fracture'
And, being drunk, I didn't realize it was broken until the next day, when my right hand looked like a kosher Chanukah ham.

It was awhile before I played the guitar again. I think I went back to drinking rather quickly, though.

Hey, in that shot, the kiddo looks kinda like Tatum O'Neill in "Paper Moon." :)

two years ago i had carpel tunnel surgery and i couldn't "pop" and empty my ice cube trays with one hand. i drink a lot of ice tea so i had my mom empty all my trays into a huge bowl i put in the freezer. when i had the second had done a few months later i was ready and emptied them before.

and twisting wet hair up into a towel.

22. Putting a bandaid on yourself
especially when one of the hands needed to open the package and pull off the protective strips is the one that's injured and you have to hold the blood back with the other hand. Johnson & Johnson needs to invent a bandaid that can be put on with your teeth and lips!

23. Is this the first time
the kiddo's been up on DU?

That's an awesome picture, and you know I think your daughter is a total gem. :)

Let's see...
Getting dressed can be a nightmare one handed.

Reading, because if the book is in that once hand you can't turn the pages.

Making any kind of food. Even something as simple as a sandwich, can be difficult for the same reason as eating out of a small boal. You chase things around.

Pouring anything even slightly heavy.

I imagine it's a good thing you've got some help. :)

26. I think I've posted her pic before
it's been a while though...
<Typing is hard too!>
I can manage reading as long as I'm holding the book on my knees; I can hold it open w/the cast. I'm really lucky to have awesome, beautiful help!
