Hey lounge.... I have a question.....
ThomCats mammogram thread had me thinking
about something we have talked about here in the LOST household a few times...

If you were sick and the Dr's found that you had cancer
or some other disease would you want to know???

Seriously......

I don't want to know... I believe that once the MIND knows
your sick, it's over. It will kick start the process of
the illness because thats what its supposed to do....

I know its skewed thinking... but its what I believe....
maybe an "Ignorance is bliss" ideal....

What are your feelings

3. If I had a fatal disease
(don't know if thats the right terminology) but if I had six months to live I'd want to know so I could make things as easy as possible for my wife. And also would probably increase my partying up a notch or two if at all possible. My Dad was told he had three years to live and the Doctor was off by one month. My dad took it real well and ended up doing a lot of stuff he otherwise would not have. He planned his own funeral, songs, pallbearers, had his will in order, prepaid everything.

OTOH I agree their is great bliss in ignorance on this subject.

5. Hell yeah I'd want to know.
I'd want to at least try to defeat it. I couldn't stand leaving my kids if I didn't absolutely have to...

6. I guess I'd want to know, so I could bring things to a close...
and help my family prepare. It'd be good if I could spend time doing those things I always wanted to do.

8. I was debating about that before I went in for a serious round of
tests and procedures a while back...

Turns out it wasn't the big C but it still was a serious illness that has changed my life...

I'm glad I went through with it all because if I didn't, I would have been dead by now...

Which, according to some people, might not be such a bad thing...

I kid I kid...

Death needs a little humor in order to deal with life...

9. Bad shit happens for no reason. You can't manage that shit
if you don't know about it. :(

I've had undiagnosed medical stuff going on for years. It is always a huge relief when I get a diagnosis for some part of it. It's one more piece of the puzzle I can now do something about.

10. I could absolutely see where you're coming from
and at one time felt that way myself. But with a child and husband to consider, I'd want every moment possible with them (while trying for a cure)

11. Ah yes, the power of denial.
"Don't look down or you'll fall" is a tv cliché, not a oncological treatment methodology.

12. Personally I Want To Know
I want to fight and have a chance to fight

If I have a terminal illness

without treatment I'm gonna die from it probably

with treatment I might not die from it, or I might get a life extension from what I would otherwise

I have thought the ignorance is bliss way too, but truly I believe that I would want to fight, take care of myself etc.

The mind is a powerful thing. Not knowing what is wrong with you can be frightening too.

I also respect everyone's right to decide their own fate.

13. My dear lost...
As a nurse, I feel rather differently than you do about this...

I definitely want to know!

It's definitely not over once your mind knows, and that's the truth, sweetie!

What if I'd ignored my breast fluid discharge last year? I could have gotten a breast cancer, and those are pretty terrible...

But I investigated it, and it got taken care of. I am now well, and there is no cancer in my breast.

Something for you to consider...

I want to stay in control of my life for as long as I can...

Let me also say that I do understand your fear...
