A couple of weeks later one of the "not a problem for ME" people got arrested and spent some time in jail. She was really upset about it, and my sympathy level being ZERO really torqued her off. (One of my comments had been, "if you know they are illegal, and are willing to lose your kids to smoke a joint, I think you have a problem with your priorities" or something equally sane.)

Meanwhile, my heroin addict niece (who started with her mother providing marijuana while she was a minor) has been clean for (I think) nearly 120 days -- WOO HOO!

I just recently went back to teaching after a long absence. I forgot how stressful it is.

I know my daughter should get sole credit for her work. Unfortunately, the teacher leaves it up to the students to decide what to do when other members of the group don't contribute. The student has the choice of kicking the others out or letting them share the group grade. My daughter is one of those extremely shy kids who would never speak up. She'd be terrified to earn the enmity of the other kids by kicking them out. So she'll suffer in silence and just shoulder the burden. Unfair, I know. But it certainly is good preparation for life!!

But the Snickers Superbowl advert one, I was in. I decided to refrain from posting on here for a couple of months because it got so heated.

That was possibly the only flamewar I've been in on DU. I've been in several over on DailyKos though, my favourite being about the advert with the women covered in Pie. 176. I was involved in a mini-flame war with some people over Cindy Sheehan's hysterectomy.

I posted I personally didn't think there was any evidence to suggest that she was subjected to a lower standard of care by the Texas doctors who performed the surgery simply because she was Cindy Sheehan. And some people jumped on me for it and then posted a lot of things involving stereotypes about Texas, physicians in Texas and people who question those who question stereotypes about Texans or sterotypes generally.
