3. well the main guy dropped dead about 8 years ago

right when they were about to become the Next Big Thing.
It was very cool to watch vocalist Marc Sandman play a two stringed Bass. The sax man played two instruments at once frequently; they were all virtuosic musicians

6. i saw them in concert about 8 years ago
when they opened up for the femmes. I remember the two string bass, but I don't even remember the double horn.

11. Wasn't he on Tanya Donnelly's second album?
Beautysleep

IIRC it may have been his one of his last recordings.

5. I only "discovered" them a year or two ago and felt the same...
way! I don't know how I missed them.

However, I do find that they have a few songs I can listen to over and over, but many others that I just skip because they're too draggy. I burned a copy of a Morphine CD for one of my daughter's friends since he is learning to play jazz sax, and he was wowed.

7. I have a couple of their CDs, but then again
I'm from the Boston area, and that's where Morphine was from. I loved the band, but unfortunately never got a chance to see them live. Also loved Mark Sandman's earlier band, Treat Her Right. They had a good song on the radio called "I Think She Likes Me," which I'm thinking you might be able to find on iTunes or somewhere.

8. I'm glad that you've stumbled onto them--they're a great band
I was just talking about them earlier today on the "three man band" thread.

I first heard "cure for pain" about fourteen years ago on a denver radio station. They never did get as much attention as they deserved, but once I heard that song I was completely hooked, bought the two CDs that were out by then and have picked up everything they've put out since. It's a shame that Mark Sandman died so young.

At any rate, though, I'm happy you like them :toast:

10. My wife introduced them to me
Took me a little while to warm up to them, to be honest, because the saxophone seemed a little heavy-handed at first.

But now I'm a fan. Cure for Pain is a damn fine album.
