People who sign emails with their educational credentials (below doctoral status)....
...are really annoying. :grr: I just got an email from someone whose email signature is "(Insert name here), M.Ed." :eyes: Pompous much????

I have two bachelor's degrees and a Master of Education degree, but the thought never crossed my mind to add those to my signature. Maybe I should sign every email like this: "NewWaveChick1981, BA, BS, M.Ed.". :P  Yeah, like THAT'LL happen....

so, technically I could sign myself "X, AB (the way my school preferred to abbreviate bachelor of arts degree), MA, MA". Ouch, that hurts to even contemplate.

29. No thanks,
When I worked as a legal assistant at a New York City law firm, I was required to become a notary. Like an idiot, I registered my full name - some 24 letters split between a double first name, a middle name and my surname. Boy was I sorry when a few months after that I had to notarize approximately 700 documents, most multiple times, as part of a real estate sale leaseback transaction. During the time I was at that firm, this same client did the same thing 2 more times, with approximately the same number of properties (meaning the same number of documents to be notarized each time)and because I had notarized the first batch, I was drafted to do the 2nd and 3rd closings too. The worst part? - it wasn't for my assigned work group and I got into trouble with the paralegal supervisor for helping out. I learned about registering the whole name, let me tell you. I couldn't be bothered with all the frou-frou letters that I could put afterwards - it would take too long to write.

You can actually call yourself Dr. Midlodemocrat. :) I have no problem with anyone who has achieved doctoral status (Ph.D, Ed.D., MD, etc.) including that in their signature. But for someone like me to include my master's degree in my signature seems ridiculous.

20. In my office, we have a ton of people with JDs, PhDs, etc.
and the powers that be kind of encourage it for us to do that. :eyes:

IRL, I'm not Dr. Midlo, I'm Mrs. Midlo to the kids' friends. I'm not practicing, so I think it's kind of pretentious to insist that they call me that. Usually they call me Mama G. or hey you.

I got my bachelor's in journalism from the University of Missouri, where the J School is a completely separate entity from the College of Arts and Sciences. Thus, I don't have a BA in journalism or a BS in journalism. See where this is going?

There's no way I'm signing my name "SteppingRazor, BJ."

But I only do it in my science email signature. As for my username (PhDmom), I did not choose it to be pretentious. It just happens that being a mom and achieving my PhD are the 2 things I am most proud of accomplishing to date. And btw, I am a bit more proud of being a mom!

Peace.

If it is professional correspondence where the degree matters or if you are putting some know it all in his place - fine. But otherwise - no Ph.D. and no Dr. in front either.
(in social situations Dr. is for a medical doctor)

I think in a general setting, attaching the abbreviations for educational credentials below a doctoral level is ridiculous. This does NOT apply to professional credentials, only academic degrees. :)
