What is your thermostat set at?
Do you have a programmable one?

We have a programmable one but I'm thinking I would like to update it because some of the buttons stick and it's not exactly user friendly.

We'll let it go down as low at 60 at night and pile on the blankets and never more than 68 during the day. We have electric space heaters to keep the room we're in a little more toasty if desired.

10. Same here
I have 275 gallons in the tank. I hope I can make it last most of the winter. My thermostat's on 50. I use 3 portable radiator-style heaters in the rooms I use.

14. This is the first time I am genuinely scared that we won't have heat
If I can't afford more oil then I may have to use electric space heaters and deal with a massive electric bill come springtime.

At least the kids like mac n cheese, ramen and spagetti. Fills the void at least.

17. I'm in the same situation
I can't afford to move either. I'm almost done putting up plastic on all 17 windows. That's helped some. I've got rooms shut off and use an electric blanket too.

Good luck this winter. I hope it's a mild one. :(

2. programmed to go down to 60 at night
and 64 in the morning and when I get home (it goes back down during the day while I am at work). I grew up in a cold house (oil heat, out in the country), so I'm fine with throwing on a sweater or hat if I get cold, and don't like a house that is too warm.

15. "1"
I don't have a thermostat, I don't think. I have a knob on the radiator in my apartment that I assume just lets a fixed amound of hot water flow through.

So last night I turned it to "1" because it was like 28 degrees out. Inside thermometer says 71.

I don't pay for the heat, so I'll just keep it at "comfortable".

16. Off right now because it's been so warm - low 70s during the day, upper 40s, low 50s at night
Grew up in an unheated bedroom, prefer cold to heat. Kept thermostat at 60, but now that we have a wood-buring stove, we'll keep it in the 50s, use an electric heater in the bathroom when we take a shower. This winter is supposed to be warm and dry, thank to La Nina.

We set it at 66 from about 5 to 8 am and 6 to 10 pm. The rest of the day it's at 62. Our programmable is very easy to use. Energy costs too damn much to keep it any warmer than that.

I'm VERY cold-blooded. Being cold is downright painful for me. And mine isn't programmable. So, it's at around 68 or 70 (hard to be exact with the little notch things on the dial) all the time.

It's the one area where I'm not very green. Sorry.

If all else fails, those little cube ceramic heaters can really kick it out and at least warm up the bedroom or bathroom.

75. Below 50.
It's just not that cold here. It does get cold at night, but it stays warm enough inside for us.

Now, when we lived in MA, that was another story altogether. We closed off whole sections of the house and set the heat just high enough to keep the pipes from freezing. Cripes...nothing like seeing your breath in kitchen in the morning.

And the bill was still around $400 a month. Gotta love electric heat and bad insulation.

77. OFF
It's been absolutely dreamy here.. 72 daytime./58 nighttime

I have had the house open and the whole-house fan on during the day :)

About 4 am, I do close the house up and kick the furnace on for a bit to get the temp up to about 70, so my poor husband doesn't freeze his bony little ass off when he gets out of the shower at around 5:30 AM :)and after he leaves for work, I turn the beast off again :)

I won't have to pay anything this winter.. (I have a $375 credit) on my gas bill ( I pay extra every month and then skip payments during the winter:)
